Super Heavyweight doesn't have the same ring or prestige to it. Heavyweight needs to be the top division.

I guess back in the old days it was as primitive as just not eating for a while to hit a scale, particularly in gangster days where politics were dangerous, like mobsters running the shows or black fighters being restricted with stipulations. Given those extremities from back in the day fighters today are soft, and we just pay respect to early boys who made this sport “better.” As much as I like to complain about Floyd vs Canelo at 152 most of my gripe is why didn’t Floyd fight him at the IV higher weight if it was “easy,” considering Floyd said GGG was easy work too. Truth is Canelo’s gameplan was bad and his Ring IQ didn’t have enough experience. A Trout win wasn’t enough. I’m more disgruntled with Floyd switching agreements last minute with Marquez from 144 to 146. that’s an advantage for Marquez, but the point is 144 on the scale benefits Marquez since Floyd couldn’t do it! That’s the point!

At the end of the day, all these weights that we argue about doesn’t really matter. I spar with guys of various weight differences all the time, sometimes real hard hitters. I don’t know. I’m starting to change my opinion on the sport with weights. it’s not a big deal, but at the same time it is. Lol
Personally I think if you can beat a guy at 140 you should be able to beat him at 147. I am in the same conundrum regarding weights and excuses fans and fighters make. I mean sure a 130 pound fighter versus a 200 pound is a bit of a stretch. I go back and forth with the weight issue and I really do not care who won how many belts in different divisions. Especially if they did not beat the best in the division to be called a champ at that weight. I think with the amount of money being thrown around all these weight classes are just another tool for fighters/promoters etc to control their opponent.

I see a trend today with a lot of younger early/mid 20 year olds cutting enormous amounts of weight to make a specific weight class then balloon up maybe 2 divisions to gain an advantage. This benefits younger fighters tremendously while older fighters have a hard time making that lower weight and do not want to move up to a higher weight where they could face a younger fighter coming in 2 divisions higher on fight night.

Double edged sword. Look at non international commissions/organizations versus international ones. FIFA is known for being corrupt. Look at the major sports in the US. They are not international organizations/commissions but they do employ athletes from all over the globe. If we have 1 body it can turn into a monopoly much like the FIFA and the Olympics. Look at MMA they have numerous companies even though there is one clear cut popular one that most fans watch (UFC). The problem with boxing is that you can get fighters from one belt fighting another fighter from another belt where in MMA you will never have that happen unless they sign on with that company.

Maybe each belt needs to have their own ranking with their fighters not being allowed to be ranked by multiple belts. So if WBC has Canelo as their #1 the IBF cannot have him ranked at all. And once a year the champ is forced to fight another champ but otherwise they need to fight the top contenders in their belt.

So Cruiser is from 175-190 and Bridger is from 200-224. What about 191-199? Is that just called Wonder Woman weight seeing as its no mans land? Either this article left out some details or Sulliedman needs to learn basic math.

            About time...but...

I've been campaigning for at least one more heavy weight class for years, but this is not the right name for it. You don't name weight classes after people. It could be called heavyweight and superheavyweight just like in the amateurs.

Well....I guess Light Cruiser and Super Cruiser can help fill in the gaps if problems do arise in the foreseeable future.

                New weight class

Why not call the new weight division Mid Heavyweight and set the poundage between 176 to 186. This would allow big L/H and small H/W to campaign at a safer natural size.

No Bridger or Super Cruiserweight is from 190 and a quarter to 224.

Once I heard Senor corruption stated he wanted to lower Cruiserweight to it's old limit over time, this new division makes more sense, but this isn't out of the goodness of his heart. It's a way to raise more taxes.

In the past a light heavy that was struggling to make 175 could get a bit of fat on him and compete a bit below 190, but now that guy is giving up a ton of size to 200 pound guys that sweat off up to 20 pounds.

Mike Tyson in is prime could have been a modern cruiserweight so could prime Ali. That's why Usyk is 217 too he is basically the same size as prime Ali.

But really the whole antiquated weight classification system should be revamped

Logically and scientifically by percentage increments. Not haphazardly with 2 or 3 pounds separating the light weight classes, or 7 pounds for light heavy (168-175), and then jump to 25, 50, 100, unlimited for heavies.

No, the article clearly states that Cruiser limit is 190 and the new division Bridger is 200-224. So that leaves 191-199 empty with no official dividion.

Tyson in his prime was around 215-220. I doubt he could have made any weight under 200 pounds. If anything he would have been perfect for this new weight class.
