  • Comments Thread For: WBC Prez To Lower Cruiser Limit To 190, Which Will Force Boxers To Bridgerweight

A few days ago, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman created a mountain of negative press when he announced his organization's decision to establish a new weight class called "bridgerweight" - which runs from 200 to 224-pounds.

All this will accomplish will be delegitimising the WBC cruiserweight belt as well their fruity new division. I remember that for a time (or maybe they still do) Japan didn't recognise certain authorities as legitimate, I think it was specifically the WBO. I don't think Japanese boxers were even allowed to compete for it or else they couldn't fight in Japan, AFAIK that was why Tomoki Kameda was basically exiled from Japan for a while. I'd really like other national bodies and Ring Magazine to take the same approach to the WBC and WBA until they stop all this BS.

I hope boxing media and the fans boycott this.

      But I doubt it.

Every top ten fighter in every weight class should just boycott WBC: drop every WBC belt and refuse to fight for them until the greedy pig sees the light. No more new divisions, no Diamond/Franchise/Caneloweight/Wilderweight/Superduper belts. Same goes for other Alphabets.

Ironically the higher weights make more sense. The Flyweight world is an exploitative area for fighters to hop around (literally) for 3lbs variances and claim that guys like PAC are the GOAT. Nobody talks about those things, so at this point who cares. We can’t be hypocrites while cheering for fights at the lower divisions. From LHW to traditional cruisers is a whopping 25lbs. That’s basically Minimumweight to Super Feather

Heavyweight is the open class of boxing and has a long, rich history.

No need to mess with that just because a few giants come along from time to time.

The extra nine pounds ( 190-199 ) opens the door for another weight class! Brilliant move presidente Mauricio Sulaiman!

If you ask me, the 25 pound disparity from light-heavyweight ( 175 ) to cruiser ( 200 ) is too much ; in essence this is virtually the same weight-bullying that Deontay 'Bronze-Bomber' Wilder has struggled with throughout his campaign as a HW. This idea is consistent with the general principle of fairness and equal opportunity, that the WBC seeks to establish for all boxers in higher weight divisions.
