The WBA followed in 1982, then the IBF in 1983. Today will be no different. Like it or not, promoters and networks want to add value to their product. In boxing, a championship is the proper tool to market big-fights to the masses and promotes the sport. This also helps prize-fighters raise their profile, establishes grades and recognition in the sport.

Not many fans have much of problem giving multi-weight champions from the lightweights credit for climbing 2-3-4 weight class, in fact, this increases their legacy. Why should it be different for cruiser-bridger-heavy weight classes? Not everyone is born a giant-hunchback like Tyson Fury, if such a term as 'weight-bully' applies, you will not find more cowards taking advantage of their size than HW's.

Boxers want belts, promoters want belts, networks want belts, fans want to see championship fights, the demand is too great to stop the 'Bridger' weight class.

Its the dawning of a new era.
Back in the 80s, the WBC had prestige

Now it’s just one of four. I can see maybe the WBA do following suit, but this weight class will not be universally recognised

      175 to 200lbs is a big leap.
Agreed. You have lower divisions where the difference is a few pounds but at the top you get really wide ranges just like they have in the UFC.

In what seems an inevitable move as we get larger and larger HW's. The WBC should have at least held a meeting with the other major organizations so that they can all universally agree to a weight and name. Maybe even take into account the Olympic committee. This way at least we see unity in the sport and not just some money hungry Call-U-Next-Thursday's.

Like I said before, a weight class between CW and HW has been in need for a long time now. Ignoring weight disadvantages at HW because both fighters are “big and tall” os crazy. Weight advantages seems to disappear in fans eyes when it comes to HW. There are other real ****** weight classes like the little group of pointless weight classes that have 3 lbs between them at the lower weights. This is hardly the worst one. The name is ******, but the concept was needed.

If a guy is 215lbs and can’t go below 200lbs because he is unable to do it in a safe manner, and the champion is 260lbs, the 215 guy has no choice but to fight the 260 guy to win a belt.

I don’t look at the whole thing about WBC making money off of this, because for once they are actually doing something that makes sense so I actually commend them for taking initiative.

And honestly you boxing fans are just fans, you do not fight. You’re not the one going in there vs a guy 70lbs heavier than you rattling your brain left and right, slowly making you have brain damage. So complain all you want but it’s actually a fair thing to do. Now we will get to see fair fights.

It hasn't occurred to them to just expand the range of the Cruiserweight class? This would make the Cruiserweight class deeper and more meaningful and interesting - something that is has never been.

Of course, this really is mostly about expanding the sanctioning fee revenue base, so that's why creating a new ******ly-named weight class seems like the only option for the corrupt WBC. Fcking BridgerWeight. Good grief.
