Haney needs to be put in with a pressure fighter that will get dirty with him and try to actually win. Gamboa now just goes in survival mode and wants to make it to the final bell. Nakatani would be a nice test for Haney.
Yes that would be a good matchup. I was surprised at how 'difficult' it was for Haney tonight. If that makes sense. Just was expecting a more clinical performance against an old small Gamboa.

Haney is more awkward in there than I thought, and I don't really see that as an advantage for him right now, but sometimes awkwardness can be really good. Like Andrade's for example.

Well tell that to the guys who have compared him to Floyd

Haney's whole game plan is just to out point his opponent and land more while being defensive sound. So when a opponent like Gamboa is defensive, Haney is not going to look great since he won't take the necessary risks to open Gamboa up. He started to get more aggressive late but he needed to start opening up by the 4th or so round. Haney isn't a natural killer nor all that natural going on the attack. He's still young but has some improvements to make.

Styles make fights, this is true. That type of style can definitely neutralize other styles as we know, so I'm not writing him off yet. But yeah just was expecting him to look better athletically in there

His punching technique looks strange to me. It’s kind of like Crawford’s punching technique. Even when they straight punches, it looks as if they’re throwing looping wide punches

              Haney’s got skills
But he does lack one crucial attribute in POWER

Loma vs Haney would be interesting to see

NONE OF THESE KIDS ARE MAYWEATHER! Stop searching for the Next Mayweather because it is never going to happen

Mayweather made it look easy but it is not easy at all! Pretty Boy Floyd was a totally different Monster and none of these kids are anything close to Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather not Haney, not Shakur...NONE OF THEM!

I feel like maybe Haney can find some power as he ages, but at the same time, he should have more than he has now. He looks like he has some pop with some shots, and then some shots it's like nothing is there.

Loma vs any of those guys would be great theatre. Hell any of those guys matched up would be great.

Floyd was great and a level+ above Haney at the same weight, but he wasn't perfect either. Definitely had some stuff you can critique on him.

I made the thread because a lot of people who picked sides at 135, the ones who picked Haney said he was 'the next Floyd' etc etc. I always liked the kid but tonight's performance was very 'meh'. I didn't even see the physical skills I was expecting to see. He just looked like another good guy to me tonight.

I like the Fortuna fight for him. I'm really interested to see how Verdejo does against Nakatani.

I don't see it ending well for Verdejo, but that is a very good fight for Haney. Winner of Linares vs Fortuna would also be great.

I still want to see Haney's chin touched a few times to see if it is legit or not. If it is, no one will have a easy time against him, and that includes the likes of Lomachenko and Lopez.
