How does Toney disrespect the sport? He's got what,80 some professional fights? And the guy entertains with his skill, he's a natural fighter, more relaxed looking in the ring than anybody I can think of.

        Keep hoping my friend.

I fell off the James Toney bandwagon quite some while ago. It saddens me to have to repeal my support for this once great boxer. What he is doing is worse than Holyfield in my opinion. Holyfield is deluded and is making the wrong choices but does not know better.
James Toney is wasting his wonderful abilities and is capable (or was) of much more. Ruiz should have been beaten naturally. Rahman should have been sat on his ass and outpointed as well. To smother such ability and lose or draw with such mediocrity hurts his legacy far more than Holyfield not knowing his limitations.
Go ahead, tell me that a man with this talent, ability and smarts (and Toney is NOT ****** no matter what his persona) should waste 2 (TWO!!!) Heavyweight World Championship shots with poor preperation.
        What about this is creditable?
Why will this change when there is no belt on the line this time?
Why should I support him when he talks big but tries little?

In this matchup I think Sam Peter is too big, powerful and lively (in early rounds) and he likes to be in close. Toney stays close in the pocket but got caught a number of times by Rahman. If Rahman can catch Toney (digracefully) then Peter can. If Peter catches him, Toney will be wobbled at the very least. I think Peter is too big, strong and wild for Toney to take lightly. Toney relies on his beard, talent and luck. All three are fading due to age and the odds are against him in my book.
An in-condition Toney would lessen the odds hugely but as in all HW fights, one punch can finish it and we are never going to see a fighting-weight Toney again.

WBC President Jose Sulaiman has gone on record as saying that the winner of this fight will challenge the new WBC Heavyweight Champion, Oleg Maskaev, for his newly acquired title. To explain by example just what a competitive fighter James Toney is, he did not have to take this fight against Peter, as #1, he was automatically penciled as the next challenger for the WBC title. WBC is such a corrupt organization

He just fought for the title and blew it....

I've never seen anyone getting another title shot in their next fight and FOR THE SAME BELT!

              **** this Sulaiman whore!

please tell me you are joking. toney has no damn respect for the sport - he acts like he f'ing owns it!

                he doesn't.

i like that jt has 70+ fights, that he is fairly skilled at defence, has a good poker face(that fools most people into thinking he's never been hurt), and has fought in more weight classes than 98% of boxers.

but, his skill isn't as great as people seem to make it out to be. he has carefully selected his fights at heavyweight - well, until this one upcoming fight with peter who is just wild in the ring. jt has tested positive for preformance enhancing drugs, had a draw with rahman, and seems reluctant to fight w klitschko who made him a nice 1.5 million dollar offer to take a f'ing title fight - even though toney is ranked at #8 and has already had 2 title fights with no belts won!

not to mention the blatant racial comments that should offend anybody with common sense!

Hate him or love him James Toney makes the best fights possible and dodges no one. He didn't even need to take this fight and he still would have been in line for a title shot. You have to respect that.

i don't have to repect anything!

my opinion, no, he doesn't make the best possible fights. this upcoming fight with peter is an exception, however. this is a fight where, if peter comes in not trying to totally box his way to a W, toney could very well lose. i'd place a better chance on peter to beat toney any day of the week compared to rahman.

look at toneys past fights: john ruiz, dominick guinn, rydell ****in' booker, etc. these are not particularly exciting fights or the best match-ups. holyfields corner threw in the towel in jt's first fight at heavyweight, and that's the only thing close to a stoppage that he's had so far.

what about him "ducking" wladimir klitschko. yeah, i used the word "ducking". it's simple, you don't badmouth a fighter like he did, say you'll fight him for free, say that he's easy to beat, and then turn down 1.5 mil and a shot at a title - which really isn't deserved in the first place.

i think all of us were looking forward to a klitschko/toney fight. well, on the bright side, at least toney is fighting someone who has a bit of power.

When was he ever hurt? he might be an ******* but this isn't a popularity contest & IMHO athletes aren't suppose to be look at as role-models for what they think or say, they should simply be looked at as incredibly talented athletes. Also from what i've heard outside of the ring & while not promoting his fights, JT is a nice guy, he's given us alot of great fight & that's more then enough for me to respect him.
