Comments Thread For: Callum Johnson in Boxing Purgatory Due To Hearn-Gallagher Row

What Arum got is a property, Teofimo, who is worth like 10x what he was before the Loma fight.
Hearn figures that if Buatsi wins (which IMO he won't) he'll only be about 10% more marketable than he was.
If Callum wins he'll only be about 10% more marketable than he was.
So the investment isn't worth it.
He'll sit tight & watch their careers go down the drain.
It is rough. These guys haven't got 40 year careers ahead of them, like financiers like Hearn. They have a short window for success & the lock-down is eating into it like the Pacman.Comment

When your camp are the only ones not boxing because they wont accept lower purses during a global pandemic you should see a pattern forming, Joe just cost Natasha Jonas a rematch for the world title too when she never deserved the original fight and MTK were happy with the offer.....he then called Sky and Matchroom racists but wonders why he is hated throughout british boxingComment

A 40% reduction is a disgraceful offer, they clearly had no interest in rescheduling that Johnson fight IMO.
They could definitely finance Buatsi-Johnson, easily, that’s not an expensive fight to make.
At some point you have to take a somewhat of a financial hit to further your fighters career. Look what Arum just did for Teofimo Lopez. If Arum and ESPN can finance Lopez-Lomachenko without PPV or fans in attendance why can’t Hearn and Sky finance Buatsi-Johnson a fight nowhere near as expensive? There’s no legitimate reasons they can’t besides greed or not wanting to make the fight in the first place.
It’s laughable your defending this tbh man, I rate you as a poster but surely you can see this is poor form from Sky/Hearn.
I think a big issue is Sky/Matchroom don’t like making in house fights.
Im not defending, just being realistic to the state Skys regular boxing cards have got. Come on man you know Sky are never giving Hearn the cash to put a fight of this calibre on regular Sky during these times.Comment

You’re spot on mate.
Callum hasn’t been happy with Hearn for a while and rightly so in most aspects. Hearn never wanted Callum to join the WBSS he was angling for Smith-DeGale on PPV. Callum backed himself, joined the WBSS and won it, and Sky gave him N’Dam on 2 weeks notice and John Ryder. Whilst Dillian Whyte who’s never even fought for a European title fights on PPV regularly.
I will admit though, part of the problem is Callum earned so much from the WBSS that he wants big money that Sky/Matchroom either can’t match or aren’t willing to match.Comment

ESPN are bleeding viewers and laying off hundreds of staff. Sky sports have been getting record viewership for football the last couple of months and couldnt give a **** about boxing outside of the PPVs.

Yet Sky/Hearn can’t even give their subscribers a relatively low budget fight in Buatsi-Johnson, these guys don’t earn millions, they don’t even earn hundreds of thousands. It’s just not good enough...Comment

I'd say just go to Frank Warren and give Hearn the finger, but not if the Buatsi fight is on the table. I seriously think he should take that if he can get it, I'm convinced after Buatsi's last fight that the first guy with a big punch is going to blow him up. Johnson should do that, and then go to Warren and give Hearn the finger.Comment

I’ve known some of the Smith family for years.
Smith-BJS was agreed in principle, but Sky couldn’t provide it with a PPV date after Whyte-Povetkin 2 was hastily rearranged for November.
It’s not on Smith that those fights haven’t happened it’s on Hearn/Sky, Hearn’s done nothing for his career really, I’m glad he’s finally out of that contract.
Callum was like the golden child of Sky Sports behind AJ until he went in the WBSS. Since then Hearn hasn’t been getting him many fights.
By the way I think Smith-BJS isn’t a PPV fight but would be a really good co-main eventComment

I think Smith got £800k for the Canelo fight.
Flanagan had an awful run as champ, load of defences against domestic level opponents apart from the guy who got injured in the 2nd round. Heard nothing about him since he lost to Hooker and Prograis. Although maybe he left Warren to go in the WBSSComment

I don’t think it’s on Smith either, fighters want to fight rather than just train with no fight on the horizon.

Dereck Chisora 0-7 against European champions, a domestic level HW on PPV.
Dillian Whyte never even fought for a European title. Has headlined 5 PPV’s.Comment
