Should j. Ruiz have stayed at cruiserweight?

He had a great right hand, whenever he wanted to throw it, had great stamina, tough as nails, went nip and tuck with bad intent heavyweights, took on all comers, effectively swarmed all his opponents with a form of mauling.

He knocked out some guy on YouTube, this fight, somebody posted "John Ruiz is not being a poosie in this fight" can't remember which one it was. That shows he had power.

Also if he stayed at 190, he wouldn't have had the opportunity of Tua playing ping pong with his head.

And also I noticed some of his earlier fights were at cruiser. Why didn't he stay down there? He had every possible benefit and chance to have at that weight class. Strong, power, speed, height, punch, clinching smaller guys. Wth happened?

He was Heavyweight Champion of the World, so no; he should not have stayed at Cruiser. He was successful at heavyweight. if he was ever at Cruiser I doubt anyone remembers it or even knew it. I sure didn't.

Glory, money and moderate fame. Bigger men to hug.

I mean he did pretty decent at heavyweight really, multiple time champ

Sure he was ugly to watch but so was Andre ward

Why do I get the feeling that if John Ruiz was "Jayshaun Ruiz" from brooklyn he'd have been considered an ATG

He probably weighed 190 when he was 12

I don't know. All I know is he was a dirty fighting hold and hit clinching octopus and one of the worse boxers to watch I have ever seen.

Hard to say. There are no John Ruiz experts as even his closest family members have only watched his fights once, if that. Most boring, ugly style in the history of the sport.

Maybe ugly, maybe boring, but still, he was a world champ, he had 3 fights with Holyfield back to back, fought some other good names, made some money.

Suggesting he should have stayed at cruiserweight is just very strange.

He is an ATG Heavyweight and belongs in the HOF, at least according to Norman "Stoney" Stone.
