Ring Mag Forcing it on Klit-Maskaev Possibility

RING MAGAZINE DOES THE WRONG THING!

17 August, 2006 by Cliff Rold

IT HURTS TO BE RIGHT IN BOXING!

Landover, MD-At the conclusion of yesterday's Floyd Mayweather-Carlos Baldomir piece, (Click to read) I spoke of a less intriguing matchup and not just to you dear readers. I jokingly said to Luke Callahan of Talking Boxing earlier this week, “Now that there is talk about a fight between Oleg Maskaev and Wladimir Klitschko, I’ll bet Ring Magazine jumps Maskaev high enough in their rankings to fill their heavyweight title vacancy.” I wish I were wrong more often (about boxing…I’m wrong with my girlfriend all the time).

thats a BS article, really ...

Maskaev beat Samil Sam who was WBC # 2, and the WBC champion Rahman... That's not a long list, but it is a good one.

Who has done much better than that in the last year?

WBC #2...what does that mean? Whoopee...He hasn't beaten anyone in RING'S top ten in over seven years (and that was Rock too). In fact, he has been KO'd by every other ring top ten fighter he ever faced.

what matters is the recent ring performance .... what happenned 8 years ago is irrelevant

tell me who has done much better in the last two years?

what does WBC mean? WBC is the most prestigious belt outthere

Says who? Depends on the weight class and the champ. The only titles I care about are lineal and right now heavyweight is vacant. Ring's ratings have HUGE sway at ESPN and HBO which is Boxing's mainstream press. This rating is awful and, IMO, political.

              Toney? No.
Liakhovich? ... has done about as well as Maskaev.
Wlad? ... has done about as well as Maskaev.
              Valuev? No.

I'd say Wlad yes and have no problem with anyone seeing him as #1 after Brewster lost to Liak; however, Wlad was KO'd by Brewster in a fight that I gurantee HE though was for a 'piece' of the title (and how sad to even have to write that). So how can Wlad-Oleg be for the 'real' title when the man who beat Wlad, and the man who beat him, ain't in the equation? Brewster was at least as credible as Rahman prior to Sergei (he should have lost to Meehan but he didn't get **** stomped by Ruiz) and so Oleg just magically appears as #2 when he's the only other titlist likely to face Wlad? C'mon.

Wow, I would have though you'd like me after all the nice stuff I wrote on Floyd yesterday. At least I'm getting paid to be terrible and ignorant.
