Comments Thread For: Manager: We Must Deliver Championship Fight For Usyk, And Will Stand Our Ground

For as long as he's officially campaigned as a heavyweight, Oleksandr Usyk has aimed for his next fight to be for the heavyweight title. His team is now at the point where any other option simply won't be accepted. The unbeaten former World cruiserweight king picked up his second win at heavyweight, surviving a stiff challenge from Derek Chisora (32-10, 23KOs) to claim a unanimous decision in their October 31 clash in London. Usyk won by scores of 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113 for his first victory since making his divisional debut 54 weeks prior in a 7th round stoppage of Chazz Witherspoon last October in Chicago, Illinois.

“We must deliver out fighter to a beating at the hands of Josh” is what he meant to say

“Usyk offered his highest achievement in cruiserweights to obtain the mandatory position in heavy,” Alexander Krassyuk, managing director of K2-Ukraine—Usyk’s co-promoter along with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing—told BoxingScene.com. “As his promoter the fairest thing I can do for him is to ensure that his sacrifice is not in vain.”

That's the issue here, and the reason why I believe the WBO will have no alternative but to order AJ to fight Usyk before Fury, or relinquish their belt.

Usyk relinquished all his championship belts at CW in order to become eligible for an immediate mandatory shot at AJ's WBO title (WBO rules). I believe that means the WBO have a legal obligation to honour the pledge they made to him ... that if he handed back his CW belt he could fight for their HW belt as soon as he was ready.

I actually wished Joshua vacated the IBF title, and did not fight Pulev, rather than vacate the WBO, and not fight Usyk! At this point, Joshua has no choice! He must vacate the WBO title, and fight Fury! Usyk vs. DuBois is not a bad fight either!

So Joshua can fight Usyk and fury can give wilder his trilogy fight, then the winners fight for total unification. No big deal. But, whenever it happens, the fight needs to be for full unification no point otherwise.

I would actually favor Usyk vs AJ rather than Usyk vs Dubois. AJ is a smarter and a more experienced fighter, Dubois would fight Usyk like a bulldozer and he hits harder than Chisora and won't gas out in 4 rounds. I'm not convinced Usyk will beat Dubois especially if they fight in the UK with the local scoring.

Dubois can do what Chisora did, at a slightly faster speed and with more persistence 'Usyk will have to up his game another level'.

Depends? I think Dubois could possible try and box Usyk at range 'And force Usyk to chase him etc'.

There is more that one way, Dubois can approach that fight.

It is a 50/50 fight as it stands now 'On current form'.

I'd rather see Fury vs AJ first and then Uysk fight the winner.

Kind of annoying Uysk has beaten one decent HW who isn't even in the top-10 and he gets straight to the front of the queue

Dubois has no chance against Usyk at the moment. Dubois hasn't even faced a half decent HW yet. He has been taking easy fights and hasn't yet built up the skills you gain when your opponent tests you.

It's the age old story of a hard-punching HW being fed easy fights and his fans think he is the greatest before he has even faced anyone!

I'd say that fight is 90/10 in favor of Usyk

Dubois would lose to Parker, let alone Usyk.

He's got his hands full with Joyce up next. His first real test.

And yet Joyce would get outworked and out pointed by both Parker and Usyk.

In terms of skill and boxing ability, the purist says Usyk v Parker is the fight to make.

Oilskin needs to get past Junior first and that ain't a gimme!
