Comments Thread For: Haney: Lopez, Top Rank Trying To Brainwash Fans Into Thinking He's Undisputed Champ

Devin Haney respects what Teofimo Lopez accomplished in the ring last month. Haney wholeheartedly disagrees, however, with the contention that Lopez's upset of Vasiliy Lomachenko made him boxing's undisputed lightweight champion. According to Haney, Lopez must defeat him, too, to make that championship claim.

Lopez is undisputed, Jeez! These guys with their paper titles. Only Haney's Mom thinks he has a legitimate title.

Undisputed or not, he beat the best Lightweight in the division! You're fighting Yuriokis Gamboa! Get over it!

Haney is hurt because he knows Arum is not going to let him fight Lopez (or Lomachenko), while he's signed to MatchRoom! Haney's only hope is to position himself as a mandatory for Lopez at 140!

Haney is a paper champion. Simple and plain. Not his fault, but he is one. Having said that, Lopez is not undisputed. Sucks. Nobody’s fault but the WBC, but those are the facts. Clearly Lopez is the true champ of the division regardless of which “titles” he holds.

It's the WBC that Haney should be calling out, not Teo and Top Rank.

Now I'm a fan of both champions ( Haney & Lopez ), but I'm going to keep it 100. One of the most persuasive argument in favor of Teofimo's 'Undisputed' claim is that the 'Franchise' championship is the new 'Super' championship for the WBC ; as is the case with the WBA.

The problem here is : the WBA 'Super' world-title applies to all of boxings weight classes, this is not the case with WBC 'Franchise' titles. You can argue that given the fact that the WBA 'Super-champion' has the obligation to defend against the 'Regular' WBA champion, that establishes the hierarchy for said world-title.

The 'Franchise' championship has no foundation, I think that its a disgrace that if you were forced to establish the roots of the 135 lightweight 'Franchise' belt, you have to trace it back to TWO EURO-BUMS in Vasily Lomachenko and Luke Campbell in the UK ; it couldn't get any more phony than that if you ask me.

Yeah I don't know how I feel about someone being Undisputed at like 15 wins, lol. I'd imagine there are some asterisks with that which shouldn't be ignored. Perhaps I'm confusing Undisputed with having fought every challenger there was in the division, every belt holder, and cleaned house rather than beating a guy who owned the majority and now you sweeped all the belts.

Like Teo has plenty of TOUGH challenges at the weight that he could face and there is no guarantee he'll win them. In my eyes, a true Undisputed has left you no doubt that he's the king of the belts that he holds and beat everyone for them.
