Floyd’s primary target was the WBC belt, the original championship belt in boxing. So he never unified any weight class.

Why isn't Haney kicking that fake title to the curve then? He pays a sanctioning fee every time he defends it, he could easily tell the WBC no thanks, when you have an actual title I could fight for, let me know. So all these are confusing statements, even from Mayweather who allows his fighters to fight for secondary belts.Comment

Even if there were less belts, boxing would find a way to jam that up too I’m sure. I hate all the “interim” belts in ufc do to “situations”. Fights are hard to make in boxing since it started.Comment

The problem for boxers is they got bigger problems than making a stand against ABC groups. They gotta worry about the guy they are fighting trying to knock their ass out & staying in shape & other sh^t like that to compete at their highest level.
And it's also a means to an end for boxers. They didn't create this multiple champ world, they just live in it. Fighters would adapt if there was 1, 4 or 20 champs cuz their lifespan in the sport is limited. So proving you can beat someone with a belt that deems someone a top guy at a minimum is a good thing for boxers the way things are. Don't matter if that champ is #1 or #6.
If there was only one belt then proving yourself vs a top ten guy would define you better than it does now with 20+ guys usually being able to be noted as top ten of one ABC group or another.
Don't ask for sanctioning, don't pay the fees, see where they go.Comment

I'd just argue boxing doesn't support ABC groups so much as promoters & networks do, but I guess that's a semantics argument cuz of the power promoters & networks have to drive the sport in specific directions.Comment
