I think you May have interpreted his awkward laugh at that moment. He’s said behind the scenes several times (see Ellie) and as serious as ever that the penalty is huge.
I took the laugh as him actually embarrassed about the fact that he had that response to a question about making weight. He’s given all the excuses in other fights....this is him giving a different answer to the recurring inquiry into his professionalism.
