  • Comments Thread For: Chavez: Canelo is Pound-For-Pound Best, But Crawford More Complete

Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez is fully behind Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez being regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. There are some who viewed Vasiliy Lomachenko as the pound-for-pound best - but two weeks ago he tasted defeat with a decision loss to Teofimo Lopez.

"The opponents that Canelo has had position him as the best pound-for-pound fighter, although for me Terence Crawford is much better [as a boxer], more complete than Canelo Alvarez." - JCC Sr.

    Yes sir! I concur!

I can absolutely respect this assessment. Crawford passes the eye test, but Canelo actually put the work in. The work is what matters most and he is P4P because of it. I thought he was P4P before Lopez beat Loma too, for this very same reason.

How about Gallo Estrada? He has more skills than Canelo, as does Chocolatito.

Crawford did it without the use of PEDs which makes it a lot more impressive. Clenelos two best names on his resume GGG and Floyd he lost to. His two best wins outside of them you could say Kovalev and Jacobs. Sorry that doesn’t make you P4P #1.

Crawford’s resume is completely littered with average fighters.

Canelo has some competitive wins and losses but versus P4P fighters and other fighters who were top 3 at the time he fought them.

Crawford is fighting Brook next, who is a step up from his usual B and C level fighters but Brook has seen better days. Crawford really needs to step up versus top level, prime opponents.

                You know it's interesting.

He and some of NSB say that Crawford is a more "complete" fighter.

Kev, you strike me as someone who knows boxing really well. Can you help me analyze the below...can you recall Carnelo Alvarez being in any of these three situations?

Crawford is an elite boxer but he needs to fight more marquee names out there. Aside from Gamboa, he's fought B level boxers and washed out ones. I won't even put him in the top 3

I dont agree with him with Crawford being a more complete fighter than Canelo, but that his opinion. I do agree with Canelo Resume > Crawford Resume, theirs no debating that.
