Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis' Weight Issues Have Been Blown Out Of Proportion, Ellerbe Says

As the boxing public waits for the clash between Gervonta Davis and Leo Santa Cruz on Halloween, the conversation has quickly shifted to Tank's weight. Floyd Mayweather Jr., Davis' promoter, said his junior lightweight fighter should not have any issues making weight, and the same sentiment is being promised by Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

Gervonta Davis has the talent and power to go up to 147 pounds but he needs discipline and hardwork. He should look up to Pacman who has the same size as him to maximize his potentials.

      Ellerbe is an idiot.

      Blown out if proportion?

The guy consistently misses weight. Nothing is blown out of proportion.

He moved up from 130 to 135 and what does he do in his first fight, he misses weight.

I've actually never heard of a guy moving up and missing weight on his first try on a higher weight. I doubt it has ever happened before.

      Blown out of proportion? Smh!!!

Technically, he missed weight only ONE time. He made weight in his 135 debut fight. Missing weight had happened to the best. Don't exaggerate.

He didn’t make weight at his 135lbs debut. They had to give him another two hours to make weight.

**** like that just doesnt happen.

Name one other elite fighter who missed weight in his first fight at a higher weight.

          Name one!

That's within the rules, and isn't unusual in boxing. He missed weight once.

I think he's gonna make weight this time, however I don’t know how his stamina's going to look like on fight night and into the late rounds. I feel like his whole camp was a 12 week weight loss camp since he looked really fat when he started training and normally these types of camps take something out of you on fight night no matter what. He definitely hasn't looked strong or explosive in recent training videos so I don't know.

Hopefully he manages to bring the best version of himself to the fight because he really needs to this time. An early finish would be the best case scenario for him.

If he makes 130, they'll get my $75!

The 12 weeks is what has allowed him to lose weight the correct way. That's why he is in Vegas, so that Floyd can monitor his nutrition and post workout activities. His face is the real tell as he gains fat in his face when he isn't lean.

Ellerbe is a full time spin doctor. The more the likes of him talk about tanks weight not being an issue the more I expect Tanks weight to be an issue, AGAIN.
