Kovalev fought a month earlier against Yarde and went 11 rounds with Canelo completely exhausted. Lomo just under performed in his fight with Lopez it happens

Loma had a bad night and retreated the first 7 rounds but at least he tried to win and hurt Lopez in the last 5 rounds. Kovalev never tried to win and was careful never to throw a single hard punch that might hurt Canelo. He just threw light jabs all fight. Kovalev did not want to win. His job was to follow the script and lose by KO and he dd his job well.

''retreating 7 rounds'' creates 115-113. How do you ''try to win?''

So you gotta go back to 1951 to find somebody that doubled down in 70 days GTFOH if you actually watch the sport that $h!t dont happen in 2020 and hasn't in quite a while. I personally feel like a fighter should fight bare minimum of 4 times a year but that's not how championship boxing works at the highest levels nowadays. I dont think a fresh Kovalev wouldve won that fight either but you start a thread asking a question and dont like the answer either way its answered.

I voted that Kovalev performed better BTW cause I dont think Lomo even tried for the first 7 rounds. Not that Kovalev tried very hard but at least he had the reasonable excuse of a quick turnaround and just defeating an undefeated fighter shortly before his bout with Nelo. Lomo had to spout out some bull**** bout injuries in camp and blahs blah blah ******ity. If you know your injured 6 weeks out then cancel the damn fight SMH

This notion that Loma didn't try completely discredits what Lopez did to neutralize him. He came out jabbing aggressively, throwing the hard right hand to the body, and pushing him back.

Also, he didn't bite on Loma feints and would not allow him to get the right angle he loves due to that counter right uppercut but more importantly, his speed of foot that allowed him to meet Loma where he wanted to go or he just took a step back out of range and Loma had to try all over again.
