Anyone else really disappointed in lomas performance?

First off, big congratulations to lopez! At only 23 he did what I thought was impossible. Lomas performance though reminded me of hagler-leonard he just gave away so many rounds and was so inactive. Do you think loma is still p4p? Did he have an off night? Bad tactics?

He gave Lopez too much respect early and payed for it.

But I'm not disappointed he showed what he was made of also.

I'm more disappointed at him post fight.

Safe to say everyone expected more. I'm assuming even the people who were sure he was going to lose by KO expected him to actually throw some punches. According to compubox stats he threw 80 total punches in the first 7 rounds of which 31 landed. I'm betting even his biggest haters or detractors thought he would put on a better performance even if he was going to lose in their eyes.

No not really. I knew he would be cautious early, he had to. Thought he would settle in around round 4 or so, but it wasn't until round 7 or 8. And he got some stuff going but it was too little too late. Great fight and I really enjoyed it.

When you are a high IQ fighter like Loma is, the first rule is don't do something dumb and get ktfo. Caution is key in a fight. You only open up when you have sure opportunities. Against Lopez those were not existent for him in the first half, and not open enough in the 2nd. He did come close to pulling it off a few times, but couldn't get it done.

Yeah he had a real off night. Got the gameplan completely wrong IMO.

Full credit to Lopez though, he was excellent.

At some point you need to start taking some calculated risks though. If he had opted to do that from rounds 4 or 5 on it may have panned out differently. Granted he might have gotten KTFO but in the end that seems like it would be less humiliating to him than getting outboxed.

He was waiting for the mask on Lopez to fall off showing Heinz... but it never happened.
