I don’t understand it. Why are we always supposed to believe that a “slick” light punching fighter that always goes the distance (even against bums) is going to rule boxing? What, because he has the hip hop community behind him? Someone who isn’t exciting and puts fans to sleep. Devin Haney is an embarrassment. I don’t know how people can actually believe that he can beat someone like Lopez. They handed this kid Devin a belt and then he defends it against some random dude with 12 fights on the undercard (not the main event) of a fight between two youtubers.
Meanwhile, the other guy, Teofimo, actually won his belt from a champion and his first defense was against the pound for pound best.
That’s always the case though. The recipe for a fighter that’s terrible to represent our sport:
1. Light puncher
2. Somehow involved with hip hop
3. Cherry picks fights
4. Puts crowds to sleep
I guess if someone doesn’t go for a KO and constantly makes it a boring fight, “he’s a smart fighter.”
