Comments Thread For: Lomachenko vs. Lopez: Review and Analysis

Kudos to ESPN for serving up this tantalizing, intriguing and elite matchup for all four major alphabet lightweight titles free of charge to the fans. The corrupt and self-serving sanctioning bodies might be a joke standing on their own but when all four of their belts are at stake, it actually amounts to something. In this case, it is the crowning of an undisputed 135-pound champion.

Can we please stop trying to spin this good little man vs good big man thing? They're the same size!

Sorry just feel someone has to say it.

Idk man, Loma is now approaching the end of his career at likely a higher than optimal weight (going up to chase fights and legacy). Whereas Lopez will be forced to move up in the coming years because he won’t be able to make this weight.

Whilst he might not look bigger, Lopez’s power at this weight is a game changer, just like how Loma’s power was much more effective at featherweight.

''Lopez, 23, on the other hand, is still very much an unknown entity. Except for Richard Comey, he has cut his teeth on a parade decent but rather garden variety opponents handpicked for him to beat. And his fight with Comey ended too early for it to be a sufficient mettle detector.''

15 fights in, how many HOFers had deep resumes in their 1st 15 ?
How many current P4Pers have respectable names within their 1st 15 ?

When analyzing a guy and pointing out his shortcomings, make sure it's compared to others.

"Consider Lopez a newer and much improved version of Linares."

              But why?

"Like Lopez, the well-educated and naturally-gifted Linares was touted as a potential superstar early in his career until he was exposed repeatedly as a fighter who crumpled every time he was hit with a good shot. Nevertheless, the solidly muscled Linares had a significant edge in size and strength against Lomachenko. And most importantly, he provided Lomachenko his sternest test to date.

Although less experienced, Lopez is fresher, faster, ****ier and more explosive than Linares"

Oh, ok, well that makes little sense other than being touted as being future superstars.

He weighed in at 144.5lbs 30 days out vs Luke Campbell. Practically 10lbs over the weight. He's hardly small at the weight.

They want to act like Rigo wasn't too small despite Loma weighing 7.4lbs more on the scales before hydrating. Rigondeaux jumped up two weights next thing he's back down one further than where he started and Lomachenko has gone up a division.

He wasn't too small and Lomachenko deserves all the credit in the world.

But apparently Lopez possibly being the smallest of margins bigger is a huge deal.

They just look for absolutely anything to give this guy excessive praise.
