Canelo has no one to fight to earn the contract he signed. He must take a pay cut.
Wrong! Canelo has every right to insist that De La Hoya and DAZN honor the contract they signed. It is after all a contract. Besides DAZN is NOT witholding money because of the pandemic but because they insist that Canelo fight "premium" fights. These are defined by DAZN as fights with GGG, Oscar De La Hoya and couple of MMA guys. Fights with undefeated champions are not included a premium fights by them. This excludes fights with Charlo, Liam Smith, Bivol or anyone else. In addition to that DAZN makes their money from subscriptions.

DAZN is not interested in streaming quality they want to Canelo to participate in freak shows. Those they reason generate more subscriptions than real boxining matches.

Did Floyd need Bob Arum for an allie?

Canelo signed with GBP in 2010, he was a top prospect at that time, but hadn't really done much other than that. You are right he would have been fine with ESPN (Top Rank Arum) or FOX (PBC Haymon). But in each of those cases he signs with A promoter.

I am not here touting GBP as the best promotion outfit or anything like that. I am pointing out that, unfortunately, promoters are what get fighters where they want to be. Do you think Canelo would have landed many of his big fights if he was a free agent in the past decade? Despite how good he is, I doubt it. Do you think he would have gotten all of those questionable scorecards in his favor? And thats not to claim that there is a vast conspiracy; rather that judges sub-consciously know where their bread is buttered and lean towards the A-side who has a promoters money behind them.

Canelo is a great fighter, a HOF fighter, but if he did not have a big name promoter helping him along the way, he would not have the resume or record he has now.

Do I like it, no. I wish boxing could utilize the UFC model, but that ship has sailed. So as it is, we are in a place where young great fighters need promoters to get their shot at the top.

One man's boxed smartly is another man's ran from. It's a matter of perspective.

Canelo is wack. I don't want to hear anything about Canelo unless he's fighting Charlo, Andrade, Saunders, Beterbiev an actual good fighter.

Canelo gains nothing from this legal bs. He's just being a little beyotch not wanting to fight anybody dangerous. Dazn's offering him $20 million freaking dollars! Is he a fighter or is he a crybaby?!

I would be the former except for Joshua demanding that comically oversized ring.

DAZN in all territories promoted his image. Therefore, DAZN will have a hard time justifying their defense when territories like Germany and Japan continue to grow harmlessly.

At this rate the damages become apparent. Also DAZN marketed Canelo fights “Soon” for the Global launch. That is technically fraud. Offering and marketing an investment to gain optimistic subs while they push their other sports. DAZN is a Global “Sport” app and they cross promote content. Therefore, you have to prove to the court that football buyers have no interest in boxing at all. Germans and Japanese have a healthy boxing culture.

Canelo has given DAZN 3 American site fights plus they have offices in the USA.

I see Canelo winning this case. As long as DAZN continues to make profits it benefits him. Since ESPN has offered fights Q3-Q4, it means DAZN has wasted two fights for their premier boxer.

They should’ve bit the bullet (and agree to his 30% cut) to pay him. The problem is that at the executive level a lot of the execs think about their shares and how not to lose money themselves. This common in corporations, and courts know that circumstance. Unless DAZN shows proof that they would have decided to shut its business then I see Canelo getting his money, but unfortunately on the bench.
there is a clause in both contracts that it has to be decided in arbitration so this lawsuit is going nowhere.

and remember Canelo has a poor history in lawsuits he was sued and had to pay 8.5 million to his former promoter.
