I have been on record saying that Manny for some reason gets a pass for doing the exact same thing Canelo is doing today. Manny is a "8 division champ" but if you look closer to the champs he beat they were not the best in the division yet he gets a pass and is still called a division champ. He fought numerous guys with catch weights yet it never gets brought up.

Fact is if you ever fought under HBO then you were more protected than ***** was with the media.

I hear what you’re saying but here’s the thing. In 2007 after Floyd beat Oscar an Hatton, he was 39-0. He then fought 11 times only. So we’re talking about only 10% of his fights. Before that, Floyd wasn’t under any scrutiny.

Going with that, it’s pretty easy to dissect those 11 fights to see if it’s true that Floyd took advantage or forced anyone to fight on his terms. So let’s do that.
After Hatton, Floyd fought Marquez, Mosley, Ortiz, Cotto, Guerrero, Canelo, Maidana 2x, PAC, Berto and Connor.

Who of these guys did Floyd put at a disadvantage in one form or another?

I agree with your sentiments about Manny. It’s not just the “8 Division BS” that we keep hearing about. Manny fought a lot of bums (Broner, Rios, Mathysse etc) ever since he moved to 147.

        1. Manny rarely ever beat the best in the division.
        2. Manny had catch weights too.
        3. Manny stopped knocking out guys when he moved up and possibly changed S&C coach?
        4. Manny made his reputation off of Mexican fighters who were tailor made for his style. He was never truly tested against slick defensive boxers and an older Floyd gave everyone a glimpse of what that would look like.
        5. Even when fighting bums he could still not knock them out.
        6. Manny lost to a champ and instead of a rematch fought a diff weaker champ before moving up.

And that is how I feel about Manny. He may be great but he has a lot of asterisks on his resume that I do not overlook.

Let me clear up any confusion in my comments. What I am trying to explain is during Floyd's Golden years. Years where he was a cash cow or the golden ticket. Floyd was a master businessman. He had a huge hand in prize fighting. He also has some asterisks on his resume that just make me scratch my head. Since I do not want to take the time to look up his past in detail from what I remember I will just give one example of his career as a prize fighter that made me go hmmm.

When he fought Victor Ortiz and knocked him out. I do not want to say that fight was fixed or the ref was bought because I want to believe in a boxing world where the underdog still has a chance no matter how much money is at stake. If you watch Joe Cortez' reaction and him looking away when Floyd landed the first punch and Joe gesturing with his hands time in I guess but never actually saying "box". Watch how long Joe looks over at one of the judges staring at him like a deer in the head lights. That fight made me always wonder what goes on behind closed doors.

I agree with everything you say about Manny. 💯

I listed all the guys Floyd fought in his Golden Years. 11 guys.
In fact I’ll help eliminate those names that you can agree that there was just no way Floyd took advantage of the fight in any way.

          1) Cotto: They fought at 154 because that was Cotto’s weight class. Cotto made the biggest pay of his career after leaving Top Rank.
          2) Guerrero: There were zero stipulations on weight or anything. Guerrero got his biggest payday to date.
          3) Mosley: Unless you know something we don’t, there was zero stipulation on anything. In fact Mosley’s trainer, the late Naazim spoke a lot about Floyd’s mental/physical conditioning before and after. Mosley is the only boxer that has ever hit Floyd flush on his chin (and hurt him that bad).
          4) Connor - nothing to say. It was a spectacle
          5) PAC - zero stipulation except for drug testing which was for both.
          6) Berto - zero stipulation

We are in agreement that both Marquez and Canelo called out Floyd and offered Floyd the catchweights.

I am going to disagree with your Ortiz POV. Ortiz head butted Floyd then followed it with a punch. He got what he deserved. More important, Floyd was beating him anyway.

You are left with Maidana 2x.

That’s less than 2% of Floyd’s total fights.

All that may be true without really knowing what was put in contract and signed under NDA. I have had a sour taste in my mouth with Floyd since the Victor fight. I do not deny that Victor got what he deserved for the headbutt which was odd in itself. What I cannot understand is Cortez's actions. They seemed very odd and something was up that night. No proof obviously but there are too many signs that I cannot ignore. I still think Floyd is great and what most people seem to always ignore or forget is that Floyd walked around close to his fight weight. Boxing was a business for him and he did a really good job keeping his body under control. He never had to worry about weight draining, he knew his body well and had very good control of it.
