So I saw José Zepeda vs Ivan Baranchyk. And uh...

It's true. It was an excellent fight, certainly the leading fight of the year contender but it's more in the vein of Matthysse v Provodnikov, Berto V Ortiz, Vargas v Miura.

Those were excellent fights in their own right but fights like Castillo v Corrales, Gatti v Ward and Ali v Frazier exist in their own bubble. Those fights told a story and touched the raw emotions of a fight fan as they unfolded

Crazy fight, wild ,with ok skill, two warriors counters each other knocks each other down ,brutal knockout.glad baranchyk is ok after that knockout. Fight of the year candidate for sure. hope usyk vs chisora or lopez vs lomachenko can be exciting enough.

IMO Zepeda / Baranchyk is definitely FOTY so far.

But to compare it Corrales/Castillo? Gatti/Ward? This fight was NEITHER of those. Not close to those.

Maybe Berto/Ortiz, I'll give you that one, but that's about it.

What I saw was two guys throwing haymakers because neither bothered with any sort of defense.

What I saw was Baranchyk basically fighting like David Lemieux.

What I saw was Zepeda starting off with the right strategy, which was to box smart, but then he got caught and figured he had to go to war. I don't fault him that, it's a fight. BUT...

During those exchanges, he completely threw defense out the window. Which was unnecessary and ******. Especially when there are no live fans. You're shortening your career for less money than some white collar office workers.

I encourage everyone not to let your thirst for boxing during a pandemic cloud you to what you're seeing. It was NOT Corrales/Castillo and it damn sure wasn't Gatti/Ward.

I have the fight recorded - Spanish feed, but you don't need commentary anyway.

Tell you what - I'll give the link to the first Lopez fan to accept my Loser Leaves BoxingScene bet for Loma/Lopez.
He shortened the fight by stopping him in 5 rounds and not taking any more punishment for 5 more rounds and extended his own career at the same time!

Problem is they both still took significant, unnecessary damage in front of an empty arena for a low payday.

            I just think it's ******.

I agree. Being how shltty this year has been, maybe FOTM'20 ? I'm sure Loma vs Teo will get FOTY.

Thanks to Kenny Useless, it was sloppy and foul filled

I would equate this to a poor mans Hamed vs Kelley

Can’t win in Boxing haha but I can understand why the thread starter said it can’t be compared to other FOTY fights.

It was a good fight and majority of fans missed it because it was on ESPN+ smh

As far as entertainment is concerned, this was a great fight. It would have been even better had it lasted another couple of rounds. I'd bet almost no fight fan would be yawning throughout this fight. It was constant drama and the danger was ever-present and obvious.

It was entertaining fight and good things need to be repeated. We need a rematch next year. In case Baranchyk wins, go for trilogy.

Elaborate on how it was rigged against Castillo? Not asking out of anger, just curious. I didn't care who won that fight.

I know Corrales did some shady recovery spitting out the mouth piece but the ref was going by the rules ultimately. It is hard to fault him and at least he did take points away also.
