So I saw José Zepeda vs Ivan Baranchyk. And uh...

I see people talking about FOTY. Probably. Given our current standard and what we have to work with. I don't agree, but that's fine.

But to compare it Corrales/Castillo? Gatti/Ward? This fight was NEITHER of those. Not close to those.

Maybe Berto/Ortiz, I'll give you that one, but that's about it.

What I saw was two guys throwing haymakers because neither bothered with any sort of defense.

What I saw was Baranchyk basically fighting like David Lemieux.

What I saw was Zepeda starting off with the right strategy, which was to box smart, but then he got caught and figured he had to go to war. I don't fault him that, it's a fight. BUT...

During those exchanges, he completely threw defense out the window. Which was unnecessary and ******. Especially when there are no live fans. You're shortening your career for less money than some white collar office workers.

I encourage everyone not to let your thirst for boxing during a pandemic cloud you to what you're seeing. It was NOT Corrales/Castillo and it damn sure wasn't Gatti/Ward.

I have the fight recorded - Spanish feed, but you don't need commentary anyway.

Tell you what - I'll give the link to the first Lopez fan to accept my Loser Leaves BoxingScene bet for Loma/Lopez.

Agree with you. I saw a poll on twitter I think it was, asking people which fight was better, this one or Hagler Hearns. Shockingly, the Zepada fight had 49% of the votes and Hagler/Hearns 51%. So I saw it, maybe with exceeded expectations and my first thought was, no way is this better than Corrales/Castillo, Marquez/Vasquez, Barrera/Morales or Gatti/Ward. I compared it to Hamed/Kelly.

People read way too much into those comments.

I thought it was on par with Castillo/Corrales in terms of excitement, balls, knockdowns, crazy and unexpected result, and sheer entertainment factor.

Don't really care that it wasn't comparable in terms of technical ability, defensive prowess, or ring IQ. Of course dudes were slugging it out and throwing caution to the wind. That's what made it special and spectacular!

And the comparison to Ortiz/Berto is a good one as well, and that was a GREAT fight. Ortiz came to win and Berto fought back like a lion.

Fight was amazing and fan friendly although both guys lack defense.

Rematch can go just different way. Zepeda was not far away from being stopped.

Zepeda should rematch Baranchyk before moving forward.

See, I can't even give you Hamed/Kelly because both guys in Hamed/Kelly TRIED to defend but got caught. There's a difference. They weren't really swinging for the fences except in the very last round before the stoppage.

Like Hamed got dropped leaning back, but leaning back is a defense mechanism and sometimes it's instinct if you think the opponent can't reach you.

Zepeda/Baranchyk? I'm just like, what defense?

That's why I more closely compare it to Berto/Ortiz, because at one point Berto was trying to defend the attack, like Zepeda, then he got caught and went to war and his defense basically went to zero. Just like Zepeda.

Was a good scrap between average guys lots of messy soft knockdowns before the finish, Ive seen lots of 6 rounders on obscure undercards that went like this with guys just swinging, it wont get FOTY and no way can compare with the classic wars between elite fighters.

Honestly, this fight would have been off the charts if a crowd was there to hear the roar on each knockdown. That removes some points on how epic it was compared to the likes of Castillo/Corrales but who cares. What we got was insanity for 5 rds. Pure power shots looking to end each guy with every shot. I enjoyed the heck out of it when we've had a rough year for boxing. Can't ask for much more this year out of a fight.

gatti ward 2 and 3 are trash fights.

and ortiz berto is literally 96% snoozefest tbh

and corrales castillo. As great a fight as it was is tainted by how much everything was against castillos favour because of the scum ref tbh
