Serious question. Why do PBC PPVs give better fights than Top Rank free ones?

Back in the day we got Mayweather, the king of PPV in his era, versus top fighters like Corrales, Castillo 2x, Genaro Hernandez, and most of his other championship defenses before Gatti for free with an HBO sub. It took Mayweather 9 years of putting in work, KO’s and masterful performances, defeating a slew of top opponents, before getting on PPV because he was must-watch tv.

Pacquiao’s first PPV was 2005, a decade into his pro career. He forced himself as must watch tv with fights like MAB I and JMM I. And his first PPV was against a very popular fighter from Mexico in Erik Morales if I recall.

So the two biggest star of the last 15 years took a decade building up their brand before they got on PPV and became stars.

The Charlos have been boxing for over 10 years now and it was only a couple of years ago that they started stepping up.

Let's be honest, both nextworks put out about the same ratio of worthwhile fights to pointless garbage.

To be PPV you have to prove that you are must watch TV and have a good dance partner. These fights by the Charlo’s gets them a little closer to that but they still need a good A/B-side.

Both Charlo’s right now are about as good as B-sides. Almost. I could see something like Canelo vs Charlo doing okay PPV numbers solely because of Canelo.

Charlo‘s are just not must watch TV. They’re good though. And I hope this PPV sold at least 250k legit, no false reporting.
Showtimes budget for championship boxing is around $4 mil total. I can understand if you're saying either of the Charlo fights alone aren't PPV i'd agree. But you aren't going to get both these fights and the undercard for $4 mil. The only way to make this card happen is PPV.

Ignore the fact that you know DAZN exists.

Ignore the fact that there's a pandemic.

Given the above, what made it not worth $75?
That I don't want to pay $75 to watch it, especially when I can watch it for free the next day or the next hour.

I didn't buy it and don't regret it.

This is also just your opinion. I can't name a standout PBC PPV.

Most of my favorite PPV were Showtime.

Top Rank has the better stable, some PPV have been good historically, not all for sure, but they at least have history unlike PBC which is fairly new.
