  • Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo's Trainer: Rosario's Upset Was More About Julian Williams Than Him

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut Derrick James didn't dismiss Jeison Rosario's career-changing accomplishment. Jermell Charlo's trainer just considers Rosario's upset of Julian Williams more a reflection of what Williams didn't do than what Rosario did. Williams was a 30-1 favorite when Rosario hurt Williams and stopped him in the fifth round January 18 at Temple University's Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Williams' hometown.

Distracted? Is that the new code word for having a weak chin and having a blind spot for uppercut?

I'm not as impressed with Derick James as some are but in this instance, Derick is right. Rosario had a Buster Douglas moment and yes, Julian was mentally somewhere else.

This is not to say Rosario isn't a tough outing but the planets lined up perfectly for him to beat Julian.

Unfortunately, the planets aren't reliable and Rosario won't finish the fight with Charlo.

      Watch and see.

in regard to J Rock, his chin isn't that good. If Rosario fought him again, it would have the same ending.

Maybe a Buster Douglas moment for those who didn't know about him or forgot about J-Rock's shaky chin. J-Rock said it himself that he acknowledged himself before the fight that Rosario was a dangerous homecoming fight & he was right. Don't wanna hear he was distracted etc. Rosario has done nothing but improve since the Gallimore fight(a fight in which he was handling him & was hurt with a shot to to the top of the head, not on his chin). Charlo has struggled anytime he's been in against any top opponents and expect that trend to continue on Saturday.

We will see how Rosario fares against Charlo, and I'll be rooting for him. But to say that Rosario won because J-Rock was distracted is not quite right... J-Rock chose the wrong type of fight. He was losing exchanges with Rosario but kept engaging in close quarters. Maybe he wanted a stoppage win, maybe he read too much into Rosario's stoppage loss... But I don't think he was distracted. Was Joshua distracted losing to Ruiz? No, he just fought the wrong fight.

I think he was just saying his take.

I do think Breadman was throwing shade at JRock for the L iirc. It's fooked up cuz JRock was talking a lot of big sh^t after beating Hurd but then lost focus on all his goals in the ring quick.

I mean, that’s your trainers part of his job though, aside from getting you into fight shape, game planning, and motivating you... he also has to keep you focused or at least help with it don’t you think?
