I think discussions of named geo-political regions can be pretty sketchy tbh. These regions are defined differently, sometimes dramatically so, depending on what country you are from. Panama and Costa Rica, for example, are considered to be part of the Central American landmass, not North America according to many sources, while others countries disregard the notion of a distinct Central America or even a distinct North America. This is a grammar school debate though because what exactly is a continent anyway? Why the hell is Europe considered separate from the Asian landmass? It's irrelevant to me because there is no single authority on this. The various islands of the Caribbean aren't part of the continental landmass of North America, of course, but according to some resources, they are considered, geopolitically, to be part of North America. Whatever.

Even if you wanted to consider the North America and South America together itd be referred to as "The Americas". That "s" means plural if you didnt know. That means multiple.

If people want to mislabel what it means to be "American" thats on them. Mexicans who are native to Mexico do not identify as Americans and neither do Canadians who live in Canada.

All forms, America, USA. United States are all proper ways to refer to one born in America.
