Because he loves the sport, and it's likely all he knows.

I actually lost respect for Byrd with this interview!

Stop hyping up mental weakness! Stop highlighting depression!

You can be a warrior or worrier. At the end of the day what makes Byrd great is he stepped in with larger men and fought his heart out each time.

      Great man.

Not fond of the person talking about depression and fear, especially coming from a fighter.

      Have Pride Byrd!

It’s not suppressing feelings, it’s that men aren’t so weak minded they have to be in their emotions all the time.

Couldn’t disagree more. He clearly wasn’t in his emotions all the time because he was able to control them enough to step in and fight and win two world titles 41 lbs above his ideal weight.

He proved he was a warrior. Despite him not being worry free, he 100 percent was a warrior. He didn’t give up on his boxing career when he couldn’t get signed. He went to the most dangerous weight class there is. How much more of a warrior do you have to be ??

If this dude at 50 can weigh in at 160, even 168, that says a lot about how undersized he was in his prime.

All of the Byrd family could fight

However I remember when I thought Patrick was the better boxer but as a pro he wasn’t successful at all and they both had a ton of amateur fights. I see Chris as Patrick now at the tale end of his career, burnt out! Chris has nothing to offer boxing and his last fight where he dropped down to light heavyweight and got the crap beat out of him is proof. I believe he’s going to be another sad story if they allow him to fight again, and now on drugs for pain. Come on people!

              No. Just No.

No. Just no. I recall watching him being dismantled by Shaun George. Slimmed down. Great shape. But as a boxer he was shot. Completely and totally. And that was 13 years ago when Chris was around 37 not 50.

Chris may come in in great physical shape. Heck, great mental shape as well. The fact is he will get crushed by any mid tier boxer, Light Heavy and above. He runs serious risk of permanent injury or worse.

I for one don't need to see that or encourage that.

If your listening mr byrd, I’m happy you acknowledge and highlight your issues , boxing at your age is not the answer please look for peace outside of boxing there is so much more out there than boxing , good luck in your search for inner peace .

One of the sports biggest overachievers, he would’ve been all time great status at his natural weight where his power would’ve manifested but he also probably would’ve been ducked too!

Byrd was one of my favs from his amateur days but making a MW run at 50 with new shoulders & hips + a need to smoke weed daily don't seem like a good idea. Hell even if he was better than ever somehow & could fook up everyone's day at MW all his fights are gonna get turned into no contests for coming up dirty for weed.

Hope Chris finds another avenue to pursue his competitive drive. He's a bad mfer who can succeed in more things than boxing.

                      Why even run this story?

Do not encourage or promote fighters to return in anything other than exhibitions with 112 pound kick boxers.
