As others have said, this lawsuit is a way for Canelo to get out of his contract with Golden Boy and become a free agent. Now way will Canelo get $280 million that he is suing for. This is shrewd on Canelo's part. Can't wait to see how all of this will be settled.

Sounds like they don’t want to pay the $300 million they offered.
No other fighters bring in subs. It’s a fact that when Canelo fights they saw an increase in monthly and yearly subscriptions. More than AJ or any other fighter.
So DAZN is going to spend millions in court against their top draw while he’s not fighting and making them money. All while they have bleed subscribers in 2020 due to a lack of cards.
Canelo has made big money the last decade and I’ve seen legal experts say he has a solid breach of contract case. He can afford to sit out if he thinks he will win or that DAZN and Golden Boy will settle or agree to a buyout.
I’d rather be in Canelo’s position here than DAZN.

Canelo doesn’t come up with that number. That’s his legal team aiming high knowing the response (settlement) would go low, and with alternatives, DAZN willing to let go of Canelo and pay damages for one fight only in response to the pandemic.

He didn’t do his job on a few different fronts.
The contract isn’t clear on how opponents are determined. This has caused a roadblock when DAZN or Canelo don’t agree on the opponent.
Bigger than that was Oscar doing things before Canelo was consulted. Especially telling DAZN that Canelo would do a third fight without Canelo’s buy on. This is what really caused the tension to get to this point.
Your promoter is supposed to work in your best interests and it looks like Oscar and Golden Boy failed in this case.

But DAZN's first mistake was agreeing to pay canelo 40 mil a bout when there are no big name fighters in his divisions. Callum, BJS, and Charlo just don't excite the public. And DAZN has to low ball those guys so they can pay canelo.

They gave him near best pay without securing solid matchups. But where I disagree was money making fights were there.

Boxing is like this, you can walk the line and no one pays attention. However walk a tight rope 500 ft up and we can’t turn away.

Everyone would have watched Canelo vs Andrade, Billy Joe Sanders (When he was hot), Big Charlo, David Benevidez, Beterbiev... these are great fights. However they didn’t know if he would win so they never happened.

It would be interesting to see how taking a loss impacts Canelo contractually. They were really idiots if they said losing voids the agreement. That would explain why Canelo has been choosing safe opponents.

looks like DAZN made this deal with the expectation Hearn or GBP would sign the competition to promotional deals and be able to bring in fights. when that failed, they wanted mma stars. smfh.

In the lawsuit it states they also tried to pay Canelo in stocks. And promising GGG the Canelo fight was the reason he signed with Golden Boy. GGG had Top Rank and PBC offering him deals.

Paying Canelo in shares of Apple stock would be cool, in DAZN stock not so much. Apple stock has grown 50% this year and they just had a stock split so more growth is likely.
