  • lol they paid Canelo 35 million for a single fight with Jacobs. Perhaps 15 million for GGG to Derev. Top Rank is paying 3.5 million plus 1.5 million to get Loma/Lopez. My god DAZN really wasted its money.

DAZN going global was always an initiative. To avoid commissions, once new territories open, you just pay the client all up front (ahead of time) or else those clients could sue for streaming content to new areas and profiting without them getting a piece. Think of it as selling rights fees

          Great call, nailed it

          • Who is advising Canelo? Assuming they honored the contract until his fight with Kovalev, he won't get shyt. They'll argue that the contract was frustrated.

It’s difficult, especially in the climate America is currently in, to center things around a non English speaking star.

I’m not saying canelo isn’t a draw, it’s just difficult to have him as the face of your network and sell subs in those areas.

I also agree DAZN is messing things up. No question there. They shouldn’t have centered it around a North American fighter imo. Just center it around AJ.

But I really think this is going to be good for him to leave DAZN in the long run.
              AJ?

That would have been a disaster. No one knows him in North America, and then when he came over here to build his name he got beat up by a fat guy.

DAZN USA would have been in even more trouble than it is now if Joshua had been made the centerpiece.

The only other active fighter that could have maybe done it is Pacquiao. And he doesn't speak English well either, which shoots down your theory.

                EXACTLY THIS...

Boxing in a whole isn't relying on hardcore Boxing fans to generate revenue. That's why I knew at some point DAZN in the US was going to flop w/ out having licenses to NFL or NBA in the US. Also, having Canelo Alvarez (who isn't a household name in the US) as not only your flagship Fighter but ATHLETE in a whole for the US market hasn't really resonated with subscription rates going up. Canelo saw the writing on the wall (if not sooner) with how the Kovalev fight / promotion was handled.

I should have thought about this a bit more.

This is probably Canelo's end goal. If the contract is frustrated, he will be a free agent. Shrewd.

What are you Canelo’s mistress? hahaha

With all the stuff that is going on in world, nobody has $35 million to pay your boyfriend to fight some scrub and then you over there with your poms poms “Canelo is the best”
