I'm with the others and felt that Herring looked for an ending when the fight started getting a little difficult. He wasn't losing and could have stopped Oquendo but he didn't want to be in an ugly fight anymore.

In some ways, it reminded me of his fight with Denis Shafikov, when the Russian got inside and got rough and started making it uncomfortable Jamel wilted.

I'll be honest, I don't know how to interpret the convaluted rules when these things happen. It seemed like Herring was looking for a way to navigate himself out of the fight with a W.

What kind of BS is this?

If he couldn't continue after that, he loses...plain and simple.

      Or am I wrong?

      You’re right.

They dealt their punishment out with the point deduction so a DQ was off the table. If the ref or doc called the fight after ThAt due to the cut then they are supposed to go to the scorecards. Herring himself called the fight though...

What a mess. That’s either a TKO loss for Herring or they were supposed to go to the cards

The problem for Herring is it still looks like a quit like that too, since he could've always just chosen to say he couldn't continue when he felt his lead was in danger.

        There were still four rounds.
thats 12 long minutes for someone who wants to quit to not use a get out jail free card.

Long as the cut was not caused by a punch, the fight goes to the cards if Herring couldn’t continue.

Herring would not have lost DQ or no DQ.

I’m not going to question herrings toughness when he served not 1 but 2 tours in Iraq.

That doesn't automatically make someone tough, in a boxing sense.

I missed most of the fight because I was watching the Nuggets-Clippers, but when I switched back, I saw both fighters standing around dejected with long faces.
