Comments Thread For: Hearn: If Wilder Doesn't Take Fury Rematch - He Should Retire

Well than that has no binding on Fury anymore after that. Good point. From what I understand, the original rematch had to happen before August 31 this year, that was the contract, but it’s basically been extended to the end of 2020 because of COVID.
Arum has said it has to happen by the end of the year, although it could be February if all parties agreed on it. So I assume that would be resolved by the end of this year, even if the fight is Feb next year.
From what I gather though, if Wilder basically doesn’t sign any contract by the end of December, the clause is no longer valid.Comment

Well of course, that's because you can be a good athlete in a sport and not really understand it at an analytical level. A good example is AI vs Kobe. AI laughed at the notion of practice. Kobe studied the game and applied himself in. Jerry rice esque manner. Both can play, but one had the IQ the other never did.
I know guys that are better fighters than me but they don't really see the game the way I and other do. They can execute and follow a corners instructions but can they coach a corner if they had to? Many can't. Many can't think for themselves they just throw. Thinking ahead, the chess aspect of boxing is harder to grasp than the physical fundamentals.
So yes, a dude like Bam Bam rios can have 20 fights but still not understand why he lost the fights he did, for example.Comment

Yeah I can agree with you there the title skews the message but Hearn does too much talking about Deontay and Fury and giving them free promotion when he needs to worry about his own fighters. It will be a year since Joshua last fought if his fight with Pulev goes through in December like they say so why is he worried about their negotiations.I dont usually give any credence to what Hearn says, but in this case his words were clearly misrepresented. After reading the quote, Hearn clearly said Wilder is not the type of person to quit the fight. Gotta give Hearn this one, that title was purposefully misleading, akin to click bate.Comment

Honestly am very annoyed that Fury is having a rematch with Wilder... It's just gonna be another mauling most likely. The world needs Joshua vs Fury to happen, it'll be the biggest fight in heavyweight division in a very long time.Comment

Oh, you mean, that time when AJ made a throw away comment in an iFL interview, then when Finkle was asked to negotiate the finer details it was, "no phone calls, no emails, no meetings, verbally accept or the offer is off the table"? Is that the "offer" you're talking about?remember when aj said pay me 50 million and I will fight wilder then changed his mind ? Wilder didnt sign with dazn because it’s not all about money and yet for some reason everyone on this board is concerned with wilder paycheck. Second , he was not going to be anyone’s property.
Being offered a three fight deal with a network for more money than he's even came close to earning in his entire 10+ year, 40+ fight career isn't being someone's "property". It's called securing the wealth of the next two generations of your family while also making boxing history. You say it's not about money, yet the reason they gave for turning the offer down was not knowing how much money AJ would earn (apparently that was among "many reasons" for turning the offer down, which Finkle said he would reveal in due course, but never did
). You say it's not about money, yet it was all about money when Wilder was offered four times his highest purse in an apparent "lowball offer". You can't have it both ways, pal. Unfortunately, boxing is literally all about money. It's called prizefighting for a reason.
Hearn is a bellend and has some sly tactics, but at least he knows that to make a fight you have to engage in this age-old thing called, negotiations.Comment

Yet he only made a half million less than AJ last year with no endorsements lol I'd say he's doing ok and he's in line to fight Fury and make bank again so yeah don't know what you're trying to say.Oh, you mean, that time when AJ made a throw away comment in an iFL interview, then when Finkle was asked to negotiate the finer details it was, "no phone calls, no emails, no meetings, verbally accept or the offer is off the table"? No, he really didn't lol Where did you hear that? Some racist LDBC YouTube channel?
we can only go by what reliable sources say, right? Most sources say Wilder made $20m, some, a maximum of $40m in 2019 (Breazeale and Ortiz). Those same sources say AJ earned at least those two aforementioned figures combined in the Ruiz rematch alone, as well as $30m from the first fight. And that's without his multiple lucrative endorsements (Under Armour, Jaguar, Lucozade, among others) So no, Wilder definitely did not make half a million less than AJ
Are you one of those that's gonna say something like "yea but Eddie Hearn lies, AJ doesn't make that much" without a single iota of evidence? lol
Is this like that time when Wilder was the most googled athlete in 2018? His fan base come out with the most ridiculous nonsense ever lolComment
