Serious question. How is DAZN even profitable when millions don't even know about it?

They are losing money. Amazon and a lot of online companies lost significant amounts for years in a row. The plan is that the investment will be worth it down the line. Don't see the plan working, they had a lot of issues before 2020 even started and the pandemic has made things worse for them.

So I was sittin on my porch yesterday with some of the homies sippin on a 40, smoking a fat blunt and playing dominoes, when my grandpa came to visit.

So while sitting down with us for awhile, I brought up what fights he's been keeping up with.

I asked why and asked if he had DAZN and he replied "what the fkk is that shyt??????"

I said it's a app where and that's when he stopped me mid sentence and asked "hold up motha fkka........... what the fkk is an app?????"

And the entire time when I'm explaining, I'm thinking to myself "damn...."

Just makes you wonder how many people don't even know this app exists.

Canelo, AJ and GGG being kept hostage on a obscure app that no one gives a flying fkk about.

I personally don't know how DAZN in the US will be sustainable when the main Sport on the app is a "niche" Sport in the US. Without licenses with NBA, NFL, MLB they're literally on life support.

How many of your casual "Weekend Warrior" fight fans have collectively watched Canelo's fights since being on DAZN much less known about them? DAZN doesn't do a fraction of the marketing HBO did for Boxing with the everyday programming (to non Boxing fans) which DAZN will just never have.

Great post. DAZNUSA is not profitable and never will be profitable unless it was bought by a bigger media company for the reason laid out here you have to discover DAZN via their ads or a pre existing fandom of boxing. Its not like HBO was or Fox now where you could watch a movie and then 24/7 pops up and grabs your interest or you see ads for Sat fight 25 times during the Bears game.

You will hear people say they get the Sunday Ticket package or NBA. This is not going to happen. They will be bidding against Disney, Fox, Comcast, ATT, CBS/Viacom at the very least and probably others like Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Verizon, a spun off DirecTV, etc etc. All of them have more cash and more access to cash.

On the leagues side why would they want to go on a platform that had at most 600k viewers?

DAZN might be some money laundering scheme. Their YouTube channel does pretty well though if they're monetized and most of the subscribers are from Europe.
