Oleg says A, and Vitaliy says B. Either guy seems very decent and honest. The question is whether interpretation A and interpretation B can be entirely consistent with each other:
1. Oleg thinks he scored three bona-fide KDs, and Vitaliy does not think so. Only a video can be more objective. (Here is an example from Maskaev-Rahman 2: Rahman did not think the first KD was legit. I am sure Oleg thinks it was legit, and referee thought so. There was second KD, that referee rulled a slip, that Rahman probably thinks is not legit, while Maskaev probably thinks it was legit. Who do you belive Rahman or Maskaev? )
2. Oleg thinks he stopped Vitaliy. Vitaliy thinks his trainer stopped the fight as a way to keep his injurred hand from being harmed even further.
I suppose we'll never know. I don't think either guys makes up anything, since the interpretation of the very same event can be very subjectiveLast edited by Nautilus; 08-14-2006, 10:30 PM.Comment

okay, it's nice that this thread comes up since there seem to be many people not exactly clear on the details.
according to my research, vitali did indeed have an injured arm. more specifically, if i remember this correctly, it was an injured right hand. his team told him specifically not to throw it but vitali did anyways. after warning him that they would stop the match if he continued to throw his right one more time, his corner would stop the fight. this is indeed what appears to have happened.
now, the reason behind klitschko's team stopping the fight was for the purpose of a more lucrative kickboxing match just a few days later. if i'm remembering this correctly, it was some type of title fight in which vitali's handlers had put more stock in.
also, i feel that this should be noted well - that vitali had endured injuries from his kickboxing career much into his boxing career.
manny steward had recently said that vitali had kept this more or less a secret until manny talked about it in a fairly recent interview.
as for maskaev, he should thank his lucky stars that neither vitali klitschko nor lennox lewis is still around and active in the sport. he poses little(at most) threat to either of them in top form.Comment

Originally posted by Gunstar1Vitali clearly said that he has never been down in his life, I think I believe Vitali more then Maskeav. Reason is Vitali was hit with huge bombs from Sanders and Lewis and he never went down, I don't see Maskeav knocking vitali down 3 times in one round. Vitali trainer also says that Vitalis has never been down, so someone is not telling the truth here.

Maskeav will not last more then 6 rounds with Vitali today.Comment

For instance, Vitaliy touched the floor with his gloves in round 1 of his fight with Sanders (and almost gave me a heart attack). This was thankfully ruled a slip, but was caused by Sanders chasing Vitaliy across the entire ring and tagging him with heavy punches. Some referee could have called this a knock down, and Sanders would probably agree with that, while Vitaliy would say it's a bull**** KD. Who would be right? Who cares...
Bottom line, in this story I believe both Vitaliy and Oleg ! This may seem paradoxical, but I think neither guy makes anything up.Last edited by Nautilus; 08-14-2006, 11:50 PM.Comment
