Was Povetkin’s uppercut really powerful or was it Whyte’s chin?

Koba, I think both Takam and M Perez both have very good chins. Price is Price, you never know wtf you will get. Anyhow it was a beautiful uppercut. From my online handle you can tell I'm a fan of a nice uppercut. Whyte thought a body shot was coming, as they had all night, and it was a beaut of an uppercut he never saw coming. That is an impossible question to really answer, maybe Whyte doesn't have good whiskers, or maybe Sasha caught him with the perfect shot. Cant wait for em to run it back!!! I'll take POV this time around! Not sure Takam or Perez had notoriously bad chins and Sasha flattened 'em both - so he does have genuine power....Pricey too, of course, but a stiff breeze could probably drop David so he's not really a great barometer.
Dude has power but probably no more than many dudes at HW, it's more about what he does with it. It's that ability to find a way through with something his opponents ain't expecting that makes him dangerous. That's what boxing's all about though.
I'm always brought to mind of Mayoga vs Tito when Ricardo sticks his chin out and beckons Tito in... takes 2, 3 shots flush to the chin and shakes 'em off, cos you see anyone's punch coming and usually you can take it. The skill in boxing is landing those shots where the other guy doesn't see 'em.
'Course there's variation in punch power and mandibular fortitude, but folk make too much of it.... guys get KOd when they don't see the **** coming and guys score KOs when they're good at landing the shots the other guy doesn't see.Comment

It was a pretty hard-looking punch for sure, Povetkin put his entire body into it. More importantly, it was right on the money, he couldn't have placed it any better. I don't think Whyte has an amazing chin but he's not a glassjaw either.Comment

The way people are claiming the POV’s uppercut would KO a horse or anyone is hilarious. I saw Povetkin hit AJ with the same uppercut and he followed it with a right hook and Josh didn’t go down. I believe the knockdown against Hunter that wasn’t counted (Povetkin had 2 knockdowns that weren’t counted in that fight) was an uppercut. And I’ve seen POV hit a lot of boxers with that uppercut and not all of them got dropped.
Whyte’s chin just doesn’t hold well against uppercuts but it holds well against other punches. He can beat the likes of Wilder, Ortiz, Dubois and possibly Fury. But he needs to stay away with boxers that have good uppercuts. All the names I mentioned have terrible uppercuts.
Its a combination of power and textbook execution.
Few if any humans get up from that shot.Comment

I disagree that he didn’t know it was coming. Whyte knew he phcked up and he was trying desperately to get his elbow back to defend but it was too late.
Povetkin really loaded up on that shot, he had everything behind it. few but maybe Parker and Ruiz would have survived it.Comment
