  • Comments Thread For: Lara: My Team Reached Out To Hurd For Rematch, He Said No

Of the three losses on his record, Erislandy Lara only has a realistic shot at trying to avenge one. When that fight happens, he insists, will depend on whenever Jarrett Hurd is game for the cause. The 37-year old Cuban southpaw returns to the ring this weekend, facing Greg Vendetti (22-3-1, 10KOs) atop a PBC on Fox telecast live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles (Saturday, 8:00pm ET). For Lara, it's the first defense of the secondary version of the WBA 154-pound title he claimed in a 2nd round knockout of Ramon Alvarez exactly 52 weeks prior-also on Fox, live from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Hurd has no belts. Lara is a clown, headliner for Haymon.

He should only be naming Jermell Charlo Rosario winner.

I would like to see Hurd vs Lara run back again . it was a great fight. I wonder if Hurd is still working out his mental and defensive kinks. I know he supposedly made some dramatic changes, so I guess time will tell.

I'd watch that fight again. The first fight was fight of the yr quality. Hurd showed, like angulo did before him, if you have the stamina and balls to pressure Lara, it will make for a fun fight because Lara fights harder when the fight is brought to him. But if you sit back with a low punch output and think you're going to outbox him, he'll move around and make you look ******.

I had Lara winning the first one, so yeah I doubt that is a rematch Hurd is itching for.

Hurd won’t want that, Lara is a hard fight for anyone unless Father Time finally steps in!

Lara-Hurd was an instant classic an a fight I watched dozens of times!

A fight you show someone how to fight a slick southpaw an how to fight off a bigger fighter pressuring you!

First fight was incredibly close but I had Hurd with the W. It was a brutal fight and both sustained alot of damage.

Hurd has since switched trainers and I imagine Koroma is retooling the Maryland fighter's entire approach. Makes sense that he wouldn't want to fight Lara yet and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

TBH, I'm not sure what to think of Hurd's future. He was a decent boxer early in his career and he transitioned over to pressure/volume fighter during his successful run. I was at his fight against Williams and I think he lost because he was complacent, flat and had no game plan after the KD.

I think his best bet would be to retain the pressure style and look to improve the defense and diversifying his punch selection a bit

Hurd is actually the first one who tried to fight other 154 champs and unify the division, the others were avoiding each other for years

Hurd is the reason we never got him vs Charlo.
