Povetkin and Whyte was not ordered by the WBC as a mandatory or as a Title eliminator bout. It was just a voluntary defense of Whyte's interim WBC heavyweight title belt. Therefore, Whyte is entitled to rematch if there was a clause in the contract stipulating for it.

So povetkin is now the WBC interim champion?
Surely the "interim champion" is the logical mandatory for the "champion"?

WBC has lost a lot of credibility with me. Essentially they are saying that they want to wait for Whyte to rematch Povetkin and beat him to give him his shot. Never mind that Whyte got knocked out. This means that Povetkin is screwed because even though he knocked out the #1 contender that he is not the #1 contender. Rather than call this situation complex, it needs to be called bulls666t.

Pov brutally ko's the no.1 and mandatory challenger, who is also wbc interim champ and also claims the wbc diamond belt on top of all that, so it's simple, pov should be getting the world title shot pronto! No need for silly rematchs.

Imagine. Really imagine for a second how great it would be if we had 1 title for every division & that's it.
The sport of boxing would be amazing again.
All we do today is talk about politics.
              It's pathetic.
