Italy has over the years produced many great fighters and of their greatest, Sandro Mazzinghi, passed away on August 22 at the age of 81. Mazzinghi turned pro in 1961 after a good amateur career and won the world super welterweight title for the first time two years later by beating Ralph Dupas and retained it by beating Dupas in a rematch and also beat the likes of Gaspar Ortega and Tony Montano.

    RIP champ...

I remember reading about the Little fight, one of the worst robberies in boxing history by all accounts. Little essentially battered Mazzinghi into submission yet the referee ruled the fight a no contest. Mazzinghi was later stripped and Little would go on to win the vacant title but that fight still officially stands as a no contest I believe.

One of the genuine Italian champions.

Not half-assed titlists such as Rosi, Oliva, Branco, Nardiello and the likes, who won and defended their titles against corpses.
