Hints are he carried it into the fight, and there's even suggestion it might have been a chronic injury that he'd been working through for years (which made me feel a bit of a twat when I found out cos I'd ragged on him for appearing so lackluster for much of his career).

Hes a trucker now, apparently working in the US.

Interesting, I remember with the Malik Scott fight there was a lot of 'wtf? isn't this guy supposed to be a lot better than that?'. Him already being limited would explain him struggling with a mobile opponent like Scott.

Remember watching Citizen Smith some time back. Bit dated but then again everything is eventually. Good cast though, especially Robert Lindsey. You seen GBH? Was really impressed by that but don't see it come up much when people discuss the better UK shows

Salamov? Meh, had some hopes for the kid early days but he's contrived to do almost nothing since taking an L early on... be genuinely massively surprised if he gets through Vlasov.
chilemba? this is not the same smith who got outboxed by barrera he's improving with every fight.

Oh, I agree Joe's improving fight on fight, in fact I've literally said the same in pretty much every post I made about him both before and after Saturday's fight. Thie wealth of experience he's now got at the top level has improved him dramatically but he's still a fairly basic fighter (and I don't mean that in a bad way), and stylistically Chilemba's a horrible match up for that klinda straight up and down dude. Not saying he couldn't win but this ain't a straightforward one for him at all.... and FWIW I see Vlasov vs Smith as not far offa 50/50, maybe just slightly in the younger man's favour, maybe 60/40 at best.

Bear in mind Vlasov's 3 losses have come against vey solid guys in Chilemba (who should have been a world champ), Zurdo (and you can make a case that shoulda been at least a Draw) and Glowacki. Not saying he will beat Joe, but it'd be foolish indeed to overlook him... he's well schooled and capable with top flight experience and he's a big dude.

Ha ha certain humour in choosing Citizen Smith for my avvy, cos I was more than a bit into my rabble rousing and activism back in the day, and won't deny more than a little bit of a rogue too, not entirely unlike the feckless Wolfie in fact.

Missed out on GBH, in the early 90s I was living in squats in the soon to be demolished Hulme Crescents (tabbed 'Europe's Worst Housing Estate') plotting the revolution and getting effed up on every mind altering substance known to mankind... didn't have much time for Telly back then.

Might give it a look over though, seems like I'd be up my street.

Both will be tough opponents for Smith but Salamov will be the easier of the two, he’s very hittable and slower than Joe!

Joe takes him out in 7

Vlasov is the one that will trouble Smith cuz of his style!

Joe Smith is looking better and better as he gains experience. He's got that engine and will be a world champ. He will be in some big fights in the future.
