Povetkin is indeed more talented, but he's also at the final bit of his career. But then, Whyte hasn't looked great in his last 2 fights... especially vs Rivas. He claims it was a stumble, but he was clearly dropped, and had trouble getting back up. If Povetkin jumps on him early with smart pressure, he just may stop Whyte. IMO it will be a test of wills at some point. Hopefully Povetkin can pull out a W for one last title shot before retiring. Should be a very interesting fight for fans.

I thought Whyte looked good against Rivas (and admittedly terrible against Wach). Rivas is a good and dangerous opponent and, aside from the KD, Whyte dealt with him fairly easily over the 12 rounds and also hurt him.

I feel like Whyte should get some credit for taking on a difficult challenge in Rivas. A lot of people in his position would have preferred to look spectacular against someone easy but with a name (Cojanu / Washington for instance) who has been brought in specifically to get KTFO.

Povetkin stopping Whyte early would be a first . Whyte won’t get much credit on here if he wins it will be the same old news but if Povetkin wins you will see the Whyte detractors act like Povetkin just beat the top guy ,you can’t win .

Of course he's backing Povetkin. And I don't think it's for any of the reasons he said. If Whyte demolishes Povetkin, Hunter looks worse for going the distance with him. It would somewhat delegitimize Hunter's run at HW. It's that simple.

Did Whyte get popped for roids or some such afterward?

I've said many times on this forum that I thought Whyte was progressing each fight. I just didn't happen to think that for the Rivas fight, because he didn't seem as sturdy and Rivas was definitely doing damage repeatedly, and it was an even worse performance vs Wach. All fighters have flat performances, so I'm obviously not saying Whyte is through. I don't think he gets a major title, but he'll be a live dog for anyone, and will get several significant wins for at least the next 5 years.
