Comments Thread For: Judging The Judges: Romero-Marinez Scorecard Analysis

By Jake Donovan - The scorecards that suggested Rolando Romero won a clear-cut decision over Jackson Marinez were almost as ridiculous as the interim lightweight title that was at stake. A considerable amount of outrage was spawned from the Showtime-televised chief support this past Saturday from Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. Romero (12-0, 10KOs) claimed...

How does a rematch sauare anything in this fight ? When in doubt check with the unofficial fight card And you will get the truth. But what the kid with the big punch did not land anything, looked frustrated, fouled the opponent Marinez what 20 odd times with elbows and armbar shots when in close due to his lack of skills in the ring. But he got second warnings 12 times but no points. The fight went the way it was planned to go. It happens in boxing always has always will. This was not a mega fight but it was a professional fight with a lot on the line for both fighters at the time. Now they are going to spin it as a possible re-match. No one is responsible no one anseres to anyone. I have seen it so many times in so many forms in boxing, guys getting hit when down and ref does nothing, a good body puncher gets called for legal body shots called low blows just to keep him off his game. The list is long but you learn it in boxing. And the easiest way to push it aside is to call for a rematch.
No one likes to be lied to. Not me anyhow. And yet Boxing makes money off of its lies. As long as I know that I am fine. But dont hand me this how the judges saw the fight, they are respectable. Respectable men in other areas of there lives take the money, the deal, the easy way out. It is not new but a lie is still a lie. And they wonder why boxing numbers viewers are down. When you can not even trust the people in charge to do there job. The sport of boxing was exposed during the pandemic early days and it continues to be exposed for what it is. Nothing personal but not going to listen to a lie and call it the truth. And really all sport was exposed just depends what you are a fanatic about is all.

I watched this fight live and rewatched it since and no matter how you scratch it up this is a blatant robbery across the board. Romero deserved the loss no matter how it gets spun around.

I didn't watch it live but I've seen it since..

There's no justification at all to give Romero the win..

Some serious palms were greased that night.

rematch for what? reverse the decision. make those judges sit in front of a commission and have them justify each round scored while re-watching the fight.

but who cares this is so common in boxing people were predicting the robbery before fight ended

          this sht is just normal

You ain't joking Romero needed the knockout after the 9th round to get the win IMO he was completely shut down and out classed.

Lombardi has generally produced a solid track record in 20 years as a ringside official. Even his card of 115-112 in favor of Golovkin over Sergiy Derevyanchenko last October was merely a difference of opinion
Lombardi sold himself to GGG's and as he had no sideeffects of it he liked it.

Boxing can't afford much more of this crap.
It's already out on the fringes with only hardcore fans having any perception of who is who and what fights are relevant to actually being noteworthy titles.
The proliferation of diluted titles, the fakery of social media accounts having sway in spite of the fighter's actual level.
Then more robberies at the expense of the low level of credibility left in boxing.
                Dire. But expected.

                  Good luck with that.

Boxing judges are government employees, so good luck getting rid of them or forcing them to actually do their jobs.

Romero swept rounds one, two, four, six and eleven

Thank you. That explains the scorecards.

Round 1 and 6, I gave to Romero.

The other three I gave to Marinez.

Round 2, Romero was constant aggressor coming forward. They saw that and gave it to him. I didn't because Marinez's defense was on point. But Marinez was not nearly as active as he needed to be.

Round 4, again, constant aggressor. I still felt Marinez's defense was spot on.

Round 11, I don't see it. It was target practice for Marinez. Rolly was constantly coming forward but I don't think he hardly landed anything. I bet they gave it to Rolly because this was one of those rounds where Marinez literally stopped and stared at Rolly for like half the round and wasn't pressing the action.

It's like I said. They gave Rolly rounds where Marinez didn't push the action. One guy looked like he was trying to win, that guy caught their eye and got the nod. It wasn't a robbery - they favored the constant aggressor regardless of effectiveness.

And again, I don't agree with their outcome - I'm saying, this is common and we've seen it tons of times and will continue to see it.
