Wilson knocked down in the 3rd. While McCarthy was hammering Wilson against the ropes, Wilson's 62 year old mother, Minna, jumped into the ring and began hitting McCarthy on the head with her stiletto shoe. While security ushered Mrs. Wilson away, McCarthy left the ring with blood seeping from a head wound. After order was restored, the referee, Adrian Morgan, then ordered the fight to continue. McCarthy, however, refused to return to the ring. Morgan then awarded Wilson the TKO victory, declaring that McCarthy had retired. The furious crowd kicked and punched Wilson before he was able to make his way back to his dressing room.

This incident made the news in the UK when it happened and I've watched the video several times since. But I thought that, despite the ref raising Wilson's hand after McCarthy left the ring, it had been ruled a NC after an appeal by McCarthy. Checking BoxRec though, I see the ref's decision stuck and it went down in the books as a TKO win for Wilson.

All the stories I've done so far were meant to be famous.

I started this mostly because I saw another Sutherland video on YT and thought, damn, kids must think that's the only weird one. I'm just try to cover the well known but not often covered ones.

I think I'll do a Ref KO next. The one from Malcolm pretty much only because the show. People talk about ref KOs all the time but never that one.

Another one I'm trying to find is that time guy was about to KO other fella and got closelined by the ref saving the fella about to be KO'd and found himself heels up and dazed.


There's quite a few well known what the **** was that kinda fights no one is covering. Just trying to remind folks of them.

Meekin, for example, was a TR hype job. It's like people forgetting Broner-Maidana featured humping. crazy no one talks about it.
