Comments Thread For: When Hell Froze in British Boxing

by Tris Dixon - Hell froze over in British boxing this week and leading promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn shared a phone call. The promise is that they can and will work together, creating a slew of dream fights that will have fight fans on their feet and screaming for more. This brief meeting of the minds was long overdue and there's not really a moral...

Based on follow up interviews, this doesn't seem like it's gonna go anywhere. Warren is obviously desperate AF as he finally sees his company in danger of going under and Hearn would probably rather push Frank into his coffin instead of throwing him a lifeline. There may be a meeting at some point, but nothing will come of it and Warren will just use it for PR purposes and claim that Matchroom was scared and unwilling to work together and that they are bad for the sport and the fans and whatnot. Only way this actually works for more than a fight or 2 is if Hearn is ultra confident in certain matchups and feels like he can bury Queensbury with a couple big victories from his guys.

Regardless of who holds most of the power, the financial cards or the major stars, the sport needs a fresh injection and fresh hope.
Well Matchroom do. Warren has a tiny part of Fury but really no say.

My sense is that Warren is desperately trying to desperately save his business. And who can blame him for that?

But if Eddie is any kind of businessman he'll not be thinking about how he can help him, but how he can take his fighters.

Eddie being diplomatic as usual with a slight dig.. he'll be loving this call out..

        Smells of desperation from Frank

Eddie seems like he's keeping his camp happy, or as happy as can be considering.....

Eddie can sit back with a fat cigar and watch from afar and see if Frank sinks or swims and then take his pick.... He's nothing to lose

This is what has been said in the past with boxing promoters and the like. Eddie "nothing but big fights from the start, we are coming out big I mean big fights nothing like ESPN, ESPN is hurting boxing" Fact take a look at the Backyard boxing cards past two weeks. Not the boxing I spent my life watching. ESPN used there Summer series to keep fans on notice that boxing was still alive. Again those fights were not familar to me. Forgetable if even watchable. These guys say anything but do little in putting together boxing matches that are good solid fights. sell the illuson is all. PBC and show will do PPVs with set up fights on FOX and Showtime. Put fights that have any fighers interest will cost beyound streaming money. Look at the ESPN PlUS card coming up. Get real man. And Bob Arum talking Inoue fighting Malony save Casmero for a PPV along with Lomo-Lopez think they are not working towards a PPV there.
Point ? Screw the fans make them pay, have them talk about phone calls and thought bubbles. Look at what is not on TV solid match ups leading to solid fights, fights leading to fights. OK dont do them but don't act like you are> stop treating fans like boxing is now Entertainment tonight. Nothing is really happening but we are going to talk about it like it is. GET REAL

Looks like Frank is in some serious dire straits, to go publicly literally on his knees begging Hearn. Maybe it's BT Sport pushing him into this after seeing those ratings. Deffo something serious on that side of the street.

The Boxing fight camp that Eddie Hearne set up was for British boxers and boxing fans. He said as much beforehand. The virus means that international fights are difficult.

The Whyte and Taylor fights are the big ticket fights.
