People in the USA will probably not comprehend this, but in the UK Romanies & Travellers are really intensely hated by a significant minority of prejudiced people. They probably are more loathed by those white people than black or asian people. The Daily Mail, eg, will say everything short of the P word, in a way they wouldn't dare with non-white folks.
