I wonder what this means for HBO heavyweight fight coverage. Are a lot of title defenses going to be happening in Europe now? The coverage for the Wlad vs Chris Bird was funny, because HBO barely had any space to work in and they were gettin' pushed around at ring side with people tryin' to walk past.
How pathetic is American heavyweight boxing

Peter is the number 2 us hw.Originally posted by DiegoFuegoThis is the lowest of the low's. I can admit it as a Rahman fan that he just fought a PATHETIC fight. How the hell are you gonna tell everyone you wanna end it early and go out and try to outbox Maskaev? The fact that Rahman was knocked out by this guy twice speaks volumes about how bad Americans are in the heavyweight division. Rahman beat Toney in a close but clear fight but got a draw, and Toney is easily the 2nd best American heavyweight. As Americans, we are no longer contenders, boys.
I thought he was the best.
I think he beats 3 of the 4 champs.Comment

AND Peter is as one-dimensional as they come. If Toney loses to him, then I will be very embarrassed.Comment

I suppose it was more hoping he was American then anything.

I don't know what that says about our country: it could actually be a good thing because it means "America" has finally gotten out of that whole where immigrants/citizens who are poverty stricken can find other means to make money, instead of having to get their head bashed in...if you notice, the Former Soviet countries are taking over not only boxing, but Tennis {at least female}; there is also starting to be a rise in baseketball players from those countries from what I hear...it is all about how much hunger you have, literally.
I really think that America will have somebody come up in the ranks again: there is probably some poor kid in America that is a tough kid who is going to want to get out of poverty and will be motivated to bring back the titles to America...he will know that if he can do that, he will be RICH, and money is a great motivation.
The great thing about America is the "Dream": there is the Rich Class, the middle class {which is in a demise}, and of course the Poor class...when you are in a country that has all of these classes and it has shown before that if you want it bad enough, have the raw talent, you can go from Poor to Rich and it is applauded.
One last thing, if you notice once again, most of these foreign born Champions live in the states; even in sports that are in the Olympics, their athletes train here.Last edited by Abe Attell; 08-13-2006, 03:40 PM.Comment
