Are you insinuating that Devin Haney is not the actual WBC lightweight champion? That could not be what you mean, champions are charged with important duties, namely, defending their title.

Regrettably, Vasily Lomachenko does not meet this qualification as WBC champ, Vasily has done the opposite of defending the crown ; he surrendered the championship. That in my opinion, is considered worse than brutal humiliating defeat in the ring.

If Devin Haney had vacated the WBC lightweight title, I'm sure you would never let us hear the end of it. I know I wont let Bumchenko fans forget, that's for sure.

Where does it show that Lomachenko vacated the WBC title? Devin Haney literally was raised from Interim to Full Champion in his last fight. Jermall Charlo is also the WBC "Full" Middleweight Champion, which again, means absolutely nothing until Canelo says he's done at 160 (which seems to be the case). Lomachenko the night of the Lopez fight will be announced as "The WBC, WBO, Ring, and WBA Lightweight Champion". Those are simply facts.

1. The Franchise Champion designation is exclusively by appointment of the WBC Board of Governors by a majority vote of the board. Loma was voted by the WBC as their main active fighter after similar were handed out to Floyd Mayweather, Canelo and Vitali Klitschko in the past.

2. This designation is not transferable and is exclusive to the fighter who receives such designation. Loma is unable to pass the honor to another fighter.

3. The Franchise Champion will be designated as WBC Emeritus Champion once he retires from boxing.


Basically, they did Haney a favor and aren't referring to him as Interim Champion because as long as Loma is still competing and not losing, he's still THE WBC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION.
