    Oscar Busted Trinidad's Cheeks Out

I've seen a few posts recently about the De La Hoya - Trinidad fight. There's no debate here. Tito was my favorite Welterweight of all time, but Oscar took that ass cherry. 9-3 for Oscar easily. Don King had the juice.

Then as if the beating wasn't enough, Oscar then moved to Cupey Alto and bought a house higher up on the hill than Tito's, which was a major diss as this is considered a measure of class and success the higher up the hill your house is there.

Oscar became the hero of Puerto Rico and Tito had to hole up in his hovel down the mountain with the curtains drawn while watching neighborhood kids pass his house on bicycles on their way up the hill to try and get an autograph from The Golden Boy.

I had it 114-114 the last time I rewatched it. Oscar would have won that fight if he just imposed himself more in the later rounds. He became too negative and began coasting, which let Tito back into the fight. It was the quintessential “fight of two halves”.

Looking back, it’s surprising we never got a rematch at some point.

I remember watching it and being excited that Oscar was blowing the last couple of rounds. Definitely a huge mistake because it kind of negated everything he did in the previous rounds, although from a scoring point that shouldn't matter with the judges. One of those controversies that will rage on forever

It’s sort of depends how many of the early rounds you give to ODLH. If you have him sweeping the the first 7 or 8 then you inevitably have him winning. If you thought Tito edged a couple of early rounds then you could argue he does enough to claw back the draw or even the victory.

As you said man it’s one of those controversial fights that will rage on forever.

I was rewatching a lot of fights during lockdown and posting my RBR on here. I should have done this fight.

You aren't a Trinidad fan. You never were and never will be. You are a big Oscar fan or you wouldn't make up a BS story about Oscar being much more popular in Puerto Rico than Trinidad because they thought Oscar won the fight. What a load of crap. They declare a holiday for Trinidad on his return and had a huge parade in his honer. So much for yor lie that he holed up in his house with the curtains drawn. To this day Trinidad is the most popular boxer ever inPuerto Rico. there is tons of debate on who won the fight or you would not feel the need to push you pro Oscar view point on here. It was a close enough fight that most Oscar fans say he won and Trinidad fans say he won. Oscar gave up the last 4 rounds by running and Trinidad won a few of the first 8 rounds as well in the opinion of many..The Los Angeles Times newspaper where Oscar lives scored the fight as a win for Trinidad.
