  • Comments Thread For: Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Reflects on His Decline, What Led To His First Loss

In an interview with Christian Martinoli and Luis Garca, the man that many regard as the greatest Mexican fighter in history, Julio Csar Chvez Sr., discussed what eventually led to his decline in the sport of boxing. Chvez said that after the victory against Hctor Camacho in 1992, he felt that he had already done everything.

He still did extremely well for himself even after the motivation had left him. He should have retired at 90 and 0. Andre Ward to his credit, studied these guys and when he realized that his desire and body weren't aligning he hung it up. Similarly Joe Calzaghe. It's a tough call, especially if you have unfinished business and no closure in your mind.

We all know Randall wasn't his true 1st loss, it was Whitaker.

Well let's face it, really it was Taylor. But Whitaker did it the smart way but nowhere near as fun to watch.

it should've been Taylor had there been an even half way competent ref in the ring instead of Richard Steele.

Chavez left a lot out. He was suppose to fight Jake Rodriguez and because it was Whitaker's sparing partner he didn't want to face a similar style again.

The took a pass on that fight which was suppose to be next and fought Randall. Randall's performance was excellent and it was not because Chavez was any less than a fighter than he was.

He might had become complacent but he still had a decent career after that loss. Chavez looked very good on the second ODLH fight but he quit again at that fight.

Whitaker went through the same that t the end of their careers they were consuming drugs.

If true, then the losses, all of them, are a reasonable trade-off. Prime Salma Hayek is an ATG.
