With each win, rung by rung, Vergil Ortiz Jr. climbs further up the ladder to boxing's big league. His next opponent could be a former world titlist, according to Roberto Diaz, the matchmaker for Ortiz's promoter Golden Boy.

We all know damn well he's not fighting none of the guys mentioned in here next. Why doesn't golden boy match him against his stablemate Rashid Ellis? Rashid is a great fight, yet golden boy rarely showcases him. They never promote their black fighters properly.

I'd say put him in against a Jesse Vargas or a Dulorme type of fighter. It'd be a step up from his last fight but still a step or 2 below the other names mentioned that he's probably not quite ready for yet.

Thurman would be great, but it's unrealistic. Vergil should fight Mo' Hooker or Rashidi Ellis. Those are both realistic, and Jessie Vargas would be another nice step-up opponent!

Since Danny Garcia (WBO #1) is fighting Errol Spence Jr., GBP should request that the WBO make a final eliminator between Vergil Ortiz Jr. (WBO #2) and Mo' Hooker (WBO#4), winner becomes Crawford's mandatory!

This is best possible solution with boxing politics the way they are. Hooker would be a decent step up in class for Vargas I just dont know how much abuse Hooker can take from him before he folds or it gets stopped.

He might as well test the waters early just to see how much he's got. If I was Golden Boy I would select Keith Thurman as his next opponent. He is a contender who has been very inactive and whose skills just may be slowly on the decline.
