That could very well be true. Most likely would be true. Do you mean that most Americans dont view Mexicans Americans as true americans or that Mexican Americans despite being born in the US view themselves as Mexican.
Also think we should be careful about talking about Mexican Americans as if they think the same. There are 37 million Mexicans Americans. For example Oscar De La Hoya acts very "American" compared to Andy Ruiz.
I also remember something that happened last year in English Class. We were learning about the different ethnic groups in the US. To make a long story short only White Americans and African Americans were being viewed as "True Americans" by my fellow classmates. Mexican Americans and Hispanics were viewed as foreigners/Immigrants regardless of birthplace and generation.
