Comments Thread For: Steve Weisfeld: Judging Without a Crowd, It's a Non-Factor

It is one of boxing's most recognizable sights: the man in the suit peering over and under the ropes, craning sideways and forward, trying to observe the action in the ring as his hands rest on the apron. Yet, like so much else in the Covid-19 era, that's an image increasingly locked in the past.

The sad reality is this is true in certain cases. I could name several fights that was blatant robbery but it would end up a mess so I won't but we all have seen fights that have went horribly wrong on the cards.

I wish I remember which fights they were but Weisfeld has had some horrible cards as of the past year or so, maybe more. He's getting to that "what the **** were you watching?" level.

“At the end of the day, I don’t think (these changes) affect us as officials. Our concentration is solely on the boxers in front of us.”

Possibly that's the case for Weisfeld, although I doubt it in every fight he refs... but it certainly isn't the case for all refs. We've seen way too many questionable stoppages and scorecards in recent years.

Adelaide Byrd doesn't even need to see the boxers to score a fight. Amazing, really.
