Canelo vs. David Light makes the most sense

New Zealand is coronavirus free and live sporting events are back in full swing.

That takes of the live gate issue... this fight would arguably be the biggest sporting event in New Zealand history.

Light would probably take $1 million for the fight, so that takes care of the negotiation issues.

Time zones wouldn’t even matter because the event would sell out at any time of day in New Zealand.

I know DAZN is picky with opponent selection for canelo, but the idea of him going after the WBO Oriental Belt at Cruiserweight, and the idea of Canelo starting to chase a title in a fifth different weight class would probably get them excited.

While Light isn’t an exciting opponent, I think everyone would be excited to see what Canelo could do at 200 pounds (or a catch weight above 175), so I think it would draw eyeballs.

While the opponent is likely a safe selection, Canelo would be praised for moving up again.

What do you guys think? I think this is genius and I would dig it if this was announced.

I’m not familiar with light, but Canelo at cruiserweight sounds like very dangerous territory even for someone with his ability.

Are you being sarcastic or are you genuinely suggesting Canelo should move up another 25 lbs to fight David freaking Light.

I think it’s a great idea. It’s the standard “isn’t he too small?” ploy by the promoters and Light would get an entire country (that could actually attend the event) behind him.

Plus, wouldn’t you be intrigued to see if a former 154-pound champion could beat an undefeated prospect at cruiserweight?

Wouldn’t it be way more intriguing than most everyone that’s been mentioned?

            I love it.

I would order GGG but it ain’t happening so let’s see Canelo dip his toes in at crusierweight.

i am a pretty big boxing fan and I never heard of this guy. Canelo should not fight a guy I never heard of. Callum Smith is who Canelo should fight next in my opinion. Canelo is offering smith 5 million and Smith is asking 6 million. Damn! The two sides should be able to work something out because they are not too far apart.

It’s a terrible idea that will never happen. Why would Canelo move up 25 lbs to fight David Light?

The Australia thing with Covid makes some sense, but he’d be far better just facing the winner of Horn-Tszyu, even Anthony Mundine would be a more credible opponent than David Light.

In reality though bro, wouldn’t you much rather just see Canelo-Smith behind closed doors?

I would rather see Canelo-Smith but I think DAZN is in a spot where they need a live crowd.

I picked someone besides Horn or Tsyzu because I figured they were busy with each other.

I think Canelo-Tsyzu would be a great idea.

Why does DAZN need a live crowd? They don't get a share of the gate money. How many NZ fans do you see coming out for Canelo-Light considering Parker couldn't generate enough fan interest there as an unbeaten HW champ? NZ has never been a hotbed for live boxing, Canelo isn't changing that
